Big Melon Blowout, part 1

Hi All,

It's time for me to redistribute the hats I am not wearing.
Most of the hats I am selling are 7 3/8 to 7 1/2, some larger,
some smaller. If they fit me, I'm selling them because they are
not my style. Hopefully they're your style and you'll love them.
These are top brand hats and I want to sell them at good prices.
If I wanted top dollar, I'd do the eBay shuffle. I'd rather they
got good homes with Lounge members.

I will do my best to post good pictures (I am not much of
a photographer) and answer questions. The colors on some
of these pictures did not come out great. I'll do my best to
explain. Please send questions
to my Yahoo account: kasa katz AT yahoo .com
(remove spaces and replace "AT" with the symbol). Please do
not post my email address.

I will not handle returns except in extreme circumstances.
I really hate my post office. Also because my post office is
so lame, I will only ship once every week or two, depending on
how many hats have sold.

I will post three hats a week, unless that starts to seem too slow.
The first three are chosen randomly, based on the order in which
I photographed the hats. I may have "theme weeks" ahead.

That said, it's St. Paddy's day, so why not start with a green hat?
This is a 1950s (my best guess) Mallory Aristocrat. This is a thick,
kinda tough hat.. It has a big, doublestitched overwelt. It was
originally purchased at the Mallory store. It would be a great winter hat.

Note that in the 50s revival of the 20s style, the bow is in the rear:
2336856432_0ea50bbcc5.jpg

As I recall, it's slightly distorted because I stretched this hat. Note also that
there is a tiny inclusion in the felt above and to the right of the bow.
No big deal and I believe part of the original manufacture.

As you can see, this hat is in pretty nice, clean condition.

This hat fits my 7 1/2 Long Oval head. You want a grey/green hat that can
take anything you can throw at it? This is the hat.

2 1/4" brim
5 1/2"? crown (maybe 5" bashed with the C crown)

$60 plus $15 shipping, continental USA.
Money order or paypal only.

BTW, I have limited experience shipping hats, but as
I recall, this is a fair price. If I notice it's less, I'll lower
the rate for future listings. Of course I know how to
pack a hat, which puts me one up on eBay sellers.

========================================

1950s Borsalino. Oh yeah, this is a nice hat. Too bad
the eBay listing had the size wrong or I'd keep it.

Part 1, post number two!

Finally, for this week, a 1940s(?) Stratoliner in need of some TLC,
with an unusually narrow brim (if not stingy, anyway). Comes in
the original owner's bash. This hat started out life as a 7 3/8 and
I tried to stretch it, without paying much attention. If I had paid
attention, I might have noticed the sweatband was dry and dead.
It cracked. There are various discolorations and the brim binding
is frayed in the back, too. It's a project or a beater. But it has the
potential to be a super restoration.

Note the slight felt wear around the pinch and the discolored spots
on the right side, above the bow and towards the front. There are a few
of those and some discoloration in the ribbon. Both no big deal, IMO,
but far from perfect. No idea what would come out in the wash.

Yep, liner's gone, if it had one:

It does still have a bit of the original feather...

The truth is, it wouldn't bother me too much to make this a project
for me. I could send it to Optimo and come back with a fine hat.
This is some nice felt. But if you want to do it, save me the trouble.

Brim is 2 1/8"

$50 plus $15 shipping in the continental USA.
Money order or Paypal only.

By the way...

I'm selling at least a dozen hats. There are interesting
ones ahead. This is a kind of random sampling. Some
others will include Cavanaghs (don't worry, Brad, not
THAT C&K hat), Stetsons, Caxtons, Portis, and Knox.

In addition, I may add a special "Homburger Heaven"
Homburg week (all 7 5/8) and a cowboy hat week. It all
depends on how well the sales and shipping goes.
I really do want to sell these hats cheap to Loungers,
but I'll go on eBay if I must. Show me I don't have to!

Glad to hear feedback on how I am listing, prices, etc.

They are some nice lids....

Any in a 7 3/4 that are not in need of work?
I'm afraid not. Mind you, the one Stetson I have in
that size just needs a clean and block and a tiny stitch
on one corner of the bow. The sweat is soft and the
felt is nice. It was kinda crushed when I got it, and
a few steamings have made it look okay, without much
effort. It is a huge hat with almost no stiffener and
very thin felt. Well, you'll see... eventually.

I have only one other 3/4 hat, a HATCO from the 60s
designated a Beaver 50 in Open Road form. Kinda stiff
and has some moth trails. I have been saving it as a
project hat... someday... My head just isn't that big!

PS: that Borsalino really hurts for us big headed guys, doesn't it?

Borsalino

That's an awesome hat and in my size, too. I'll take it for $60 and I can paypal immediately unless I missed some instructions somewhere. I'm going back to read now!

OK, did I miss anything? If not, please consider the Borsalino sold.

Feltfan, I sent you a PM.

Nice selection so far, I can't wait to see the rest. Put myself on a moratorium after acquiring 3 hats in a month, but after reading this post I may need to rethink that...:D

Hello! That Mallory really suits my fancy. What a good looking hat. I'll take it if you think it's going to fit my 7 3/8 long oval dome. Please PM me. Thanks

Regards,
Jim

5/8ths Fans

Patience, kids.

Or should I post more to get this party started?

As time permits.

BTW, that Mallory is one tough hat. Anyone with
a hat stretcher and some patience could make it
into a 5/8. It would already fit some 5/8 heads.

Sorry BK.
There is one 7 3/4 Stetson which you could stretch to 8 1/8.
It is big.

Mallory has been sold

Only the Stratoliner is still available... this week...

Bartenders: For some reason I am unable to edit
my own posts at the moment. No "Edit" button appears.
Not sure if there is a problem with my account or with
the Lounge as a whole? Probably I'm missing something...

Edit: now the edit buttons are back, except on the first
post of this thread. Hopefully we're on our way back to full
functionality! Thanks!
