I have an old clear glass milk bottle that has a slight-to-moderate chalky film on the inside. The part that I can get to with a rug seems to improve with rubbing.

What would would be the best way to get rid of this film?

Thanks,
Greg

It depends on where it has been.

If its been dug up, it would have to be tumbled.

If its looks like scaling, try some CLR.

If you just want a quick fix, pour a teaspoon of vegetable oil in there, and spread it around. It will make the bottle look 'clear' for a couple weeks. Repeat as necessary. Works on the outside too, clears up cracks, dings, and fish-eye fractures.

A small SOS pad taped to a stick works wonders for scrubbing out the really stubbern stuff.

Try some raw, uncooked rice. White or brown, no matter. Put the rice in the bottle with some water and shake it like a cocktail shaker. The rice is usually abrasive enough to remove the film. My wife's trick for removing film from the inside of clear vases.

If it's hard water deposits, fill the bottle with plain vinegar and let it sit overnight. I've gotten heavily crusted faucets clean using vinegar.
