Bash Help: My New Whippet

Guys, my Christmas present to myself arrived today: a vintage, dead stock Royal Stetsom Whippet in a size 7 1/2. Mint beyond description. Still has the original paper price tab on the inside of the leather band ($10.00).

It is completely unshaped. Being a newbie to hat-dom, I need some help. What the hell do I do to the thing to make it look like a fedora, and not a bowler?

Steam the crown and shape it to your liking!

Congrats or merry x-mas. That sounds like a nice hat.

I assume you've seen this:

Once you've steamed up the hat (not too much - don't
get it too hot or dripping wet), use your fingers or side of
your hand to push it into the shape you want.

Actually, what I would do is try to shape it without the
steam first. Those Whippets used some nice felt as far as
I can tell, and might be shapeable cold and dry.
