My mother was reading an article out to me the other day about a book that they had published in 1932, saying to wash hair in Baking (BiCarb for Aussies!) soda!

I use this method and love it! Anyone else?

Tell me more!! Sounds like fun! What good about it?

Another old tip I have from my granmother is to use beer as a setting lotion. I haven't tried it yet. I suppose it should be gentle and it held my granny's curls when she was old.

I have actually seen beer in a home made deep treatment for hair I think. Its perhaps meant to make it shine...

As for the Baking soda...I tablespoon to a cup of warm water on wet hair, massaged in and left for a minute, then rinsed properly. I actually condition first, then wash, but I have read elsewhere to condition after.

It works just as well as shampoo, but doesnt strip any of the oils.

Just a warning.....it should never be a "paste" keep it watery. If your hair feels dry, brittle...you have used too much!

I put a spoonful of baking soda in my shampoo once in a while to get all the styling product gunk out of my hair. Baking soda can be used to clean many things.
