I emailed them Thursday evening but haven't heard anything yet. I'm trying to find out if they have the new russet A-2 ready to go.

As far as I've heard, russet must be ready this week. Perhaps there was some delay. Many here are waiting for this jacket , promises was generous...it's interesting to see what kind of jacket it will be.

The cable company that offered free web space to subscribers for hosting photos suddenly decided to eliminate that service. All my photos will be deleted by the end of the week.

Since learning about this, I've been downloading as many of my older photos as possible. I'll re-upload what I can soon.

I just started using imgur to host my photos and it seems to work very well.

Here are updated photos of what my AVI-LTHR capeskin A-1 looks like today. I've owned it a little over a year and wore it mostly in the spring and fall because of the light weight.

I tried to focus on ares with more graining. As you would expect, this shows mostly around the button holes and stress areas on the sleeves.

I replaced the cheap clear plastic backing buttons with antique bone buttons, which I think is a huge improvement. One thing I notice is a little bit of pilling starting to show at the edges of the knits. I hope the knits don't become ratty looking down the road.

Unless I'm mistaken, there are no snaps or zippers on the A-1. Just button fasteners, which are made from horn (just like the original). So the only difference would be the way the wool knits are sewn?

There were at least two versions of the Army A-1. The original version had horn buttons all the way down the front opening. Later versions had two metal snaps at the bottom of the front.

AVI have an 'updated' A-1. http://avilthr.com/product/a1-flight-jacket-russet/
LEATHER: 100% Premium Capeskin
BUTTONS: Real horn
LINING: 100% cotton sateen
KNIT: 100% wool
I am really tempted to try one, looks very nice, esp for the price...
Thoughts?

I like mine (the company's first version). Here are the differences I see between mine and this new version:
  • Tag changed from AVI LTHR branding to one that looks more "authentic."
  • The backing buttons are something other than the crappy clear plastic they used before. (I swapped mine out for antique bone Civil War buttons.
  • The cuff knits are more authentic in style (like those seen on A-2 jackets).
  • I like the color of the updated jacket compared to mine, which is lighter.
Other than this, the jackets appear the same to me.
