I was going to bid on it(*) because of the rare 7 5/8 size, but with a nearly identical Champ Featherweight due in any day now, I couldn't bring myself to.

(*) This is a lie. I bid a few times but I couldn't justify going over $35 or so. :) You got it for a great price at $38.

Will do! THIS is the hat in question. I was thrilled to get it, especially for that price, so I appreciate your willpower!

I'm still relatively new to hat-buying, and this is my first thin ribbon. Any ideas on the vintage on this thing?

Because the sweatband has "Alessandra II" on it, I don't think it's actually vintage-vintage, but it's still vintage. I don't know if this is before or after the Borsalino buy-out in the 80s. Others would be able to help you if you posted the images of the sweat from the auction along with the liner.

I was thinking it was not real old, too, but I'm no expert.

It showed up today, and I love it! It's the first hat like this I've owned, and I love the supple felt and almost-floppy brim. It's really fantastic.

The condition is as pictured on ebay. The sweat is okay... a little stained and rippled in a few spots. The liner is worn, but not terrible. The felt is beautiful.

It's just as well you didn't get it, Dumbjaw, because it wouldn't fit you well. It's a little tight on me. I can wear it, but it pinches more than is ideal. I need to consider whether to keep it as is, send it off for a new sweat and slight size increase, or let it go. I would hate to do the latter unless I can find a better-fitting replacement.

Anyway, here's the Douglas shot. Please forgive the T-shirt!

Nice, nice, nice.

By the way, I welcome the t-shirt. I wear t-shirts with all of my fedoras during the spring/autumn, primarily because I do not care if it's considered a faux-pas. It's comfortable and that's what counts, and if you're comfortable, you're confident.

Well I for one disagree. Why wear a shirt at all? Heck, I just waltz into whatever establishment I fancy with no shirt and a big hat and I think it's swell!
