I have a friend who has a Royal Stetson that he found in a second-hand store, so there's no history to back it up. Under the Stetson logo on the sweatband, there's nothing written. The American-made Stetsons which I have seen say "John B. Stetson Company", while the Canadian-made ones say "Made in Canada". But this one doesn't have anything written under the logo. Does this indicate something?

Anybody have any luck repairing (not replacing) a vintage sweatband? I purchased a vintage hat that I knew had some cracking in the sweatband. I applied lexol before wearing it (wore it twice) but after a little sweat and a second application the front of the sweat is totally deteriorated. My guess I will have to replace the sweat but was hoping to possibly patch it some how. I guess I should of not messed with it :-(

I'm 98% sure she's wearing the Stetson Dune. You can just barely make out the 2 ply band, pin, and feather.

Billy looks to be wearing a custom lid. There's no band, and the thickness of the felt seems heavier than dress weight. Possibly a Fouquet lid, maybe Worth and Worth....

That is where I went with it to but decided to refrain from the post....but now you have broken the ice....you can get duct tape in all manner of colour now...perhaps one to match the colour of the sweat?

The first two pictures look like cotton safari hats. Like the kind Tilley makes.

Just add your own hat band.
Now the third picture is interesting. it almost looks like a straw open road hat with a wide cattleman's crease.
back in the 70's they used to add fabric under the brims of straw hats for added sun protection and reduced glare. closest I can find is this https://www.sunbody.com/index.cfm/product/589_1/open-road.cfm
Do you know what it was made form? Straw? Felt? cotton?

I'm a big fan of originality but when leather is so dry that it crumbles, it's time for replacement.

I used the Brad Bowers stitch-awl tutorial for the first time many years ago and have repaired quite a few hats using that method since.

At this point I use a heavy needle and upholstery thread and lock-stitch each stitch as I go around. This has worked as well for me as using the stitch-awl with the advantage of not having a second long piece of thread lying about as I work.

Thanks Scotty for the tip, I will have to pick up a stich awl. I already have plenty of upholstery thread and heavy duty needles (I have an industrial walking foot Singer sewing machine that I been messing around with the last couple months). Reason why I don't buy Vintage lids....I am better off sticking with customs. Oh well live and learn I guess.

DUCT TAPE: Acceptable in stock car racing, for a quick repair to continue the race. As for hat fixing....yikes.

Bee hats of vintage, I've seen over the years, but only felt one. Almost like Penny, but that, is from a small short observation. I'd say if the price is right let it rip.
