Thanks Fruno for the clear explanation. I have some others questions: in which period they were sold at that price?
Does every US manufacturer of hats have this standard in some of his models?
From the amount of the purchase figure, it seems to me that they were not put on the market in the 50s, or am I wrong?
One Dobbs Fifty, two Dobbs One Hundred, and one Dobbs Twenty

A MacLachlan Fifteen I just bought.
I like to collect hats with different price points, to compare them, Daniele.
Now I need a MacLachlan Fifty to compare with the Fifteen. [emoji2]
Bowen told me he once saw a Stetson One Hundred and Fifty, but I doubt I will ever find it.

Thanks Max for your answer, indeed answers with attached photographs of the various hats and their denomination in numbers.
I would also like a comparison of you, because the photographs do not speak to me. I can say that I am attracted by the colors or the shape of a hat, but without knowing its "real" value of quality. I want to clarify that I buy hats "by eye" or for the curiosity that arouses me.
We live in Europe that has a completely different production than in the United States and having been exporters we have also "copied" the abbreviations used by US producers to be recognizable on the market, but this, by us, does not mean anything. So I wait for your impressions hat by hat, considering you have them in your hands and head and you also have a number of European hats with which you can make comparisons.
Thank you

I will, Daniele. Some of the hats I showed are still in the US at my brother-in-law's. When I have them in my hands I will do a "ranking" of sorts.
Meanwhile, I can tell you that the best, dreamy, softest, smooth, obedient felt is the Dobbs One Hundred's, followed by the Dobbs Fifty's.

The Dobbs Fifty was given to Al Werner, announcer for the '51 Yankees. I understand that each team member was given one.
I would need someone more knowledgeable than myself to opine about the other two (@alanfgag where are you?), but I would think my two Dobbs One Hundred are from the same time period as the Fifty.

Can anyone tell me anything about this hat? Yes, it is a very poor picture.

RM, that's a PDO Stetson Clear Nutria, and from what I can see, it's a Philadelphia hat. That smaller embossment on the left appears to be the Fray sweat trademark. Fray was a Stetson employee and the only one they ever allowed to apply for and receive a patent while employed there.

That's interesting. Owner is claiming 100 years old, would that be correct? I'm trying to get more pics and info. Based on our conversation, the hat seems to be in decent shape for it's age but probably needs some work to be worn regularly. Any recommendations on an offer price for one in, say, good condition?

RM, that would not be out of line as far as age. I have one, though not listed as Clear Nutria, it would probably have been made between 1890-1910. W/O seeing the hat as a whole, it's going to difficult to determine a price point.
