Quick question which I'm sure has been addressed before here but I can't find it without looking through the dozens of threads returned on my search. What is the best way to avoid Moth Damage to my nice Fur Felt hats. I keep most of them hanging on the wall in my bedroom and a few in hat boxes. I hat the smell of Moth Balls and was wondering what you guys do. You can shoot me a pm if you like.

Thanks,
Terry

It takes a lot of work to make $4 in this economy!
Maybe you need to take on a second job to pay for hats.

Oh, wait a minute, this is for your wife.
That's our own hat fetish that we get second jobs for.

Sorry, I got off the thread somehow ...

PS. Welcome to the Lounge.

If you just look around ... there is a thread on straw hats ... you will find lots of good suggestions, but they WILL be more than $4 ... sad to say.

I buy clear plastic containers from Kmart or the like, which are closeable, and put in some type of "natural" moth repellant such as lavendar sachet's ( you can get those from Bed Bath Beyond ). I stack my hats upside down in the containers and put them in the basement. So far, no trouble with moths.

The simplest way go avoid moth damage is to move to the Southwestern part of the US. I have never seem moth damage on any of my hats or wool kilts, and just put them in a closet.

Hi, I came to this site a couple of days ago in attempts to find a particular hat and after a few days and lots of help from the community I think I am pretty close!

Anyways, here's the picture:
32829-24486.gif

Sadly it's only a partial picture of the hat, taken from "The Mummy" movie(first one) worn by Mr.Henderson. If you have the movie and would like to check it out in all it's entirety he wears it only in the beginning, on the boat, and when Hamunaptra reveals itself for the first time.

Details; from speculation and other peoples opinions.
-Looks like a neat outback/western style
-Lowered Crown
-Pinch Front
-Raw brim approximately 3" size

Finally, if anybody knows anything about where I can find this hat I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer.

IDing a specific make and model will be impossible without a clear picture of the whole hat. However, it's also entirely plausible that it was custom made for the film and that no stock hat will match exactly. I'd say wider than 3" brim though.

There are some Akubra models which might fit the bill, although the ones I was looking at just now all had vent holes. I'm sure one of the lounge's recommended custom hatters (Black Sheep Hat Works, Buckaroo Hatters, etc) would be able to replicate the hat, but I don't know if you're willing to spend that much.

I am not looking for an exact replica just something close or as close as I can get, I was aware that getting an exact replica would be more difficult and I am definitely not willing to fork over the cash for a custom job.

Assuming UPS charges the same amount in either direction, that would be an option. I'm a UPS shipper. I could ship a hat box to Canada by ground for about $15 or so - at least to the major cities. Canadians hate UPS in their direction because of the brokerage fees. I don't believe those exist in this direction.
Thanks very much. I asked the local UPS store and they quoted me $54.00 to ship a hat box from Canada to California. I was shocked. Obviously we Canadians get hosed on the price of gasoline, cigarettes, liquor, air fares and now add to that shipping.

so please give me advice to make her happy
LOL, you're gonna have to do better than a $4.00 straw to make the wife happy. Like stated above, have her show you pictures of a style, post them here and we'll tell you where to find a quality hat in the style she likes.

Cone of Silence here but I have to believe that the real reason she's mad at you is that you only spent four bucks! That's the kiss of death in the keep-wifey-happy-land. Follow the advice above. You will thank us for it.

Hello
Where to shop for fedoras in the $100-200 range?

I like the Akubra Federation for an Indy hat.. and overall that kind of style. But for other colors I can look at variations.. so what are some other good shops to shop for Fedoras? Preferably in USA

Hello
My second Federation IV, what size should it be?

Okay 3 years ago I got a Fed IV in size 60. It was too big for my head. And it kinda looked a little big, or should I say that it fell below the normal point on my head where I'd wear it... so I added sizing tape (all of it pretty much) and then it fit well.

Recently I've been messing with it and soaked it wet and it shrunk so now I took the sizing tape out and it fits pretty snug. If that gives you any clue.

Anyway as far as actual sizing, if I use a measuring tape and wrap it around the biggest circumference part of my head (around my forehead and the bump in the back of my head) it measures between a 58.5 and a 59 (59 without any tension and 58.5 with slight tension).

so I'm stumped
