Anyone wear stud collars???

Hi all-
do any of you wear stud collars?- the seperate collar that attaches to the (collarless) shirt with studs.
If so, can you buy new shirts to match the collars?
New shirts not custom jobs.
I have some nice, new/old, stiff, pointed, late, '30s collars and need a shirt or 2.

Would such a shirt also need studs for the upper half of the shirt? I'm thinking they had garden-variety buttons in front for the bottom third or so, then used more showy studs the rest of the way up.
You've found some great connections via the web for pants and the like. I'm surprised they wouldn't have this sort of shirt off the rack.

Hi Scroteace but. I found some stuff- contemporary new, reenactor and Saville Row but. I'm not after the dickie-bib-stiff-pleat-front
style getup- but, just a normal shirt and collar getup- vintage style.
It's a look.

I'm more interested in the later ones- the post WW1 cotton/linen "soft" variety-
the celluloid and paper ones are a bit too theatrical and impractical for me- sheer torture. I actually like the stripe shirt-white collar look but not in the the Gordon Gekko style. I like being bale to have a choice of point or club collar profiles.

I'm finding that modern shirts don't necessarily cut the mustard-
although I don't wear dress/business shirts a lot, not for work anyway, I'm always on the look-out for nice ones, something a little different and special. Recently I found a couple of shirts in a dept. store sale for super cheap-
longer pointed collar tips, single stitch tailoring, long french cuffs and a slimmer fit and they had cuff studs- little plastic studs but pretty nice- that's what reminded me of stud- collars, etc.
Don't think those studs were just for display, in lieu of cufflinks, but then the black shirt had black and the white one white-
It's actually pretty tough trying to find vintage style shirts these days in a good fabric- it's always the wrong collar shape or they're too blousey or the don't have a good cuff- it's probably partly because I'm not wanting to spend a fortune too.

Stiff detachable Collars

I guess that I can describe myself as an expert on the subject of Stiff detachable Collars, I have worn them since I was 21 years old, that was in the good old days when they were seen on young guys as frequently as the disgusting baseball cap is today. I have over 100 Collars in my collection in all styles and sizes, although even in the UK they are becoming more and more difficult to obtain. Stiff detachable Collars

I just wondered whether anyone has been motivated enough yet to start wearing Stiff Collars. I never wanted to go back to attached Collar shirts again after taking the plunge. I do believe that British men really became sloppy in their appearance once they gave up wearing detachable Collars.

It's a cost issue for me, I'm not about to spend $15 on a collar and another $15 on a shirt when I can buy a shirt with an attached collar for $19. It does make quite a difference appearance-wise, though...

I have a couple of stiff collars and vintage tunic shirts.
You can get a completely different look with stud collars- some of the profiles just aren't available on normal shirts. I like the 'soft' detachable collars too, not the laundering probs of the stiff collars. I like the spearpoint collars- the non-spread collars and I'm also liking the earlier style rounded collars too of late.
I don't need to wear formal shirts, so it's not a problem- more of a hobby.

I do sympathise, I guess that you are in the USA where they are even more expensive than the UK. I don't wear them every day now that I am retired, but I don't feel properly dressed unless I am wearing a Stiff Collar. Another member mentioned the matching detachable Collars, they can be starched quite easily at home so that they are semi stiff, and they certainly look smarter than any attached Collar can ever look.

I picked up one of the Victorian collar shirts from WAH MAKER (part of Scully) during my old west reenacting period and had a button sewed on the back for some collars I picked up at a gun show. (thanks to the Single Action Shooting movement)
I made my own stud arraignment and wear the ensemble with a period cravat tie, vest and frock coat ( picture Kurt Russell’s Wyatt Earp outfit in Tombstone). I get compliments, especially from women, who wish more folks would (as in their husbands) dress up for occasions.
While browsing an indoor flea market, a fellow wearing 40’s vintage clothes and a bowler gave me three semi-stiff collars just for introducing him to the Fedora Lounge!
WAH shirts are not cheap,(around $65), however, the shirt has lasted me ten years of infrequent wear and seen lots of tumbles during staged gunfights.

Those collars are really quite fascinating, I'm astonished to learn there are modern suppliers.
On a related (though not nearly so interesting) note, Land's End is now offering a dress shiirt with two buttons for closing the collar, to give it more "stand-up."
