Any Shakespearean actors here?

I'm totally new to the realm of serious theater, and I really want to get involved in my college's drama department. They're having auditions Friday for Much Ado About Nothing, and I'm more excited than you could imagine. Anyone have any tips on what to do or not do? At this point, just the audition. I'm used to performing on stage with my music, so I'm also pretty good an projecting. Anything else I should think about?

What role are you auditioning for? One of my favorite Shakespearean characters is Benedick from Much Ado Over Nothing.

First and foremost, say the words. Just focus on saying the words. Don't think about character, don't think about acting, don't think about anything. Just say the words. Don't forget to breath. Take your time. Practice the lines out loud somewhere where you won't bother anybody. Get used to the rhythm of the syntax. Take your time with the longer words.
If you have time to look at the side you'll be reading, focus on parsing the sentences. Find the natural pauses between phrases.
And finally, just say the words.

I ended up deciding that I didn't have the time. I ended up extremely busy the past couple of weeks, so I would literally die of exhaustion if I had another 3 hours a night on my plate. Working in construction and taking a full load of classes takes enough of a toll as is...

With that, a simple ending to relate...."to be, or not to be..."? lol!

Renault, that's great advice. :D And, I really hope that, in the future, I can be a part of a production at my university, as their drama dept. is very well respected, and I will more than likely never have a chance to do such a thing after graduation, except in hick-town community playhouses. :(
