I don't have any real problem paying taxes if they are Australian but I have only once been hit by a bill like this. For a cheap and cheerful Wested Indy jacket about 15 years ago. Nothing I have bought since, new or second hand has ever been taxed. Although I don't think I have ever paid $1000 for anything.

I don’t normally have a problem paying Australian taxes either, but I do when it’s unfair extortion though.

You need to open a brand new thread illustrating your Happy Days jacket. Although it is one of my favorite designs, I am NOT buying another leather jacket! :p

My Aero arrived about a week ago. No taxes, import fees or anything. I was pretty surprised, I thought I was going to be right for GST and perhaps an import fee as well. I never heard a thing about it.

What did you pay for the jacket? I assume shipping by DHL, reason I ask I’m looking at a Blue label jacket from the sales page if I get hit with custom fees under AU$1000 I won’t bother as it’s no longer a bargain

It was well over $1,000 AUD, I can't recall exactly the price (I couldn't really bear to allow myself to fully comprehend the numbers). I think around $1,400? The value was listed on the box in pounds of course, I wouldn't think that would throw Customs off track. Arrived via EMS; lucky for me it now appears. It arrived in a matter of days too. I was ready for it to take three weeks or something

Yeah, looks like it. I didn't know any of this at the time, I didn't make any request or anything. But looking at a photo I took of the box on arrival, it says EMS. I can post it if it's helpful to you?

I’ve only ever bought 3 jackets direct from Aero all 3 shipped via DHL I can’t recall having a say over the delivery service, only my latest jacket was over AU$1000 and I got hit with all the sorts of bullshit taxes and DHL admin fees - anyone from Aero reads this thread PLEASE PLEASE make some other options available for delivery as DHL suck dogs balls, will prevent me buying direct from you ever again, I’m not about avoiding taxes, DHL have & appear to have created a business around goods coming into Australia, DHL can get @$&$&$ as far as I’m concerned I told them I wanted to dispute the custom charges/ bullshit added on admin fees regarding my happy days jacket was told a form would be emailed to me - nothing was- tried ringing their phone number got put through to a what appeared to be a overseas call centres reading from a a script, like talking to a ROBOT what’s my time worth these guys hold u to ransom over bullshit taxes still to date I have no clear breakdown of what Im paying DHL for, maybe it’s to fund their overseas call centre - Aero great jacket I love it ANY AUSSIES here avoid buying direct the delivery service adds 30% to the cost of your jacket it’s extortion , thanks Aero and DHL!!!!!

When I worked at my shoe store, we'd get in shipments of large boxes usually containing 15-20 boxes of shoes. For about a month, we noticed that one of two shoe boxes would come up empty inside the large box, or there would be a big box missing from our delivery list. Turns out our DHL guy was snatching them up and selling from his home garage in a kind of black market job. Just an anecdote; I can't comment on the whole company. But you Aussies by default have it rough. It usually costs $100+ just to ship a jacket there!

The DHL person that talked to me in the phone when I called to ask where was all this extra taxes and fees were coming from was super rude and arrogant too. Pretty much told me either pay or I won’t see the jacket.
I hate DHL with passion. I won’t by from Aero direct because of this anymore, a shame.

From memory I was charged an extra AUD$350 in customs, taxes and fees when I bought a jacket off a member here that was declared at US$1000. Oh and they add the cost of postage to the total value you are charged on.... it’s an absolute rort

Plus I had the pleasure of waiting 2 weeks after it arrived in the country for it to be processed, being mailed notification of the extra charges, me paying them and then waiting for it to be delivered...by Australia Post.

Buying direct from Aero your hit with approx AU$100 DHL shipping then DHL hit you again for around 30% of the total cost in bullshit admin/custom fees , I ended up paying close to AU$400 to have my new jacket delivered via DHL with a good chunk of that going towards bullshit DHL admin fees

I bought through Thurston for my first 2 Aero jackets. I didn't even consider this problem now that I'm buying from Aero direct this time. The couple hundred I'm saving by buying direct I could end up paying in import taxes etc.

BUT - I might just see if there's someone I know living in the UK who I can have it sent to and just have them forward it to me.

Pardon my ignorance Thuggee, but do you think if DHL are adding on their own dodgy fees as well this could be a Fair Trading issue? If the company, though an o/seas one, are operating in Australia you'd think they'd be answerable to our laws, especially if they're holding you to ransom with their own 'admin' fees.

You have a fair point. DHL is extremely over priced to start and to top it all, their customer service talks to you as if blackmailing you for a kidnaping of your purchase.
I should have contacted the Ombudsman at the time.

Maybe Aero should contact DHL, if word spreads in this forum they might start loosing customers pretty quick.
