Antique store find and abandonment

We've been in Virginia for the past couple of days. In Madison county, we visited the big old antique store in an old wood building. It was the kind where junk is stacked to the ceilings and bargains can be found. Just as we were leaving, I noticed a rack of clothes. Going through it, it was the typical mix of '70s ladies and older mens navy uniforms. At the back of the rack, something caught my eye.

My first real vintage suit find, and a doozy it was at that: a 3 piece creme flannel suit, single breasted with patch pockets, these great notch lapels, which flared slightly to a really crisp point, and a beautiful belt back. The pants were wide legged with wide cuffs and a button fly.
The kicker was the price: $22, and on top of that, the store was having a 30% off sale on textile items.

As you can imagine, I was pretty excited. I took it off the rack, and out of the dark room it was in, into the front room, which had better light, only to discover that the thing resembled swiss cheese, it was so moth eaten.

So, it went back on the rack.

It was a pretty cool piece, I just thought I'd share.

...wow, what a shame. Sounds like a killer suit.

Keep looking! I've grabbed suits at $10 each. They're out there.

Man, you gotta pick that stuff up when you see it. You never know when you'll be able to afford to have it copied. If nothing else, the buttons alone are worth that money. Believe me, replacing those buttons on a vintage suit is an expensive (relatively) process.

Just some thoughts for future finds of this type.

Baron- I know I should have picked it up, and I figured, if for nothing else, at that price, I'd get it to show you all.

I left my wallet back at the cabin we were staying at, and my folks wouldn't front me the money to buy " a piece of garbage like that". They understand hats and tie bars/cufflinks, but they don't see the attraction of clothes or '30s ties. If it had been pristine at that price, I'd have it, but in the condition that it was in, they both gave firm me a firm no.

I'm pretty sure, though, that because of the condition, it's going to be a long time before anyone buys it (unless someone from this site happens upon it), so next time I get down that way, I'll remember the money.
