Selling this antique Native American sterling silver necklace. Probably dated to somewhere between the 1920s and early 1930s.
It features a genuine turquoise stone and two arrows plus a whirling log symbol.
The whirling log is a traditional Native American symbol found in various tribes, especially among the Navajo, Hopi, and other Southwestern groups. It is an ancient symbol representing good luck, well-being, and prosperity. In Navajo culture, it appears in sand paintings and stories as part of healing ceremonies.
The symbol itself looks similar to a swastika but has a completely different meaning and origin. It often features four bent arms, sometimes accompanied by sacred figures or natural elements, symbolizing the cycle of life, balance, and harmony.
In Navajo mythology, the whirling log story tells of a man who sets off on a journey in a log down a river, encountering spiritual beings who give him wisdom and guidance. This story represents perseverance, transformation, and blessings.
