I found this two piece for a great price at our local shop. Probably not very old but with loads of style. In perfect condition.
Why do I think this suit needs to be worn with a red carnation?

I love this pattern. I have two pair of pants in this style.

That's what my wife said yesterday! I have a black and white glen plaid DB suit almost like this, which I wore yesterday, and my wife asked why I hadn't wore one of the red carnations from her Valentine's bouquet.

Nice suit! I'd also like to have a 3-piece suit in this pattern.

I believe the maker is Canali.

There must be something about the pattern that attracts the flower! A three piece in this pattern would be amazing. :)

Very nice, My Friend!

I like the bold lapel and that pattern is very strong.

Of course, I would like to see it on! It's not doing any good just hanging there. How does it fit?

I just got one back from the tailorshop in a brown pinstripe I will be posting later. I had him take the jacket in and it came out very well.

It needs a bit of tailoring in the sleeves but the body and jacket fits very well. I will get pictures after the alteration.

Local shop? Are you keeping some place secret from me, Feraud?
Not at all! lol
There is a thrift stored called Northern Thrift in Huntington, L.I. It is a short drive from Queens.
You have to do a bit of digging but an occasional jewel is found.

Oh yeah, I know that place. Found a few things there myself. That suit really does have your name all over it. More of that Runyonesque flair you've nailed. (Every time I see Feraud now, I expect him to be holding a racing form.)

Regards,

SJ
Thanks S.J.! A racing form lol That reminds me we have to get together for the Belmont Stakes this year!

Why? Because you have subconsciously internalized this image of Cary Grant:
You are correct. I have to stop watching those classic movies..:eusa_doh: lol

Yes. Murrow himself was a very elegant figure, and the clothes helped Strathairn to inhabit that persona completely.

OTOH, some of the other male characters looked like their clothes were afterthoughts - not at all evocative of the era.

I agree. Most of the shirts in particular looked like they were just grabbed off the rack, and I'm sure shirts in the 1950s at least had a higher armholes.

I read in some trade journal over the summer that Murrow's shirts for Good Night and Good Luck were tailor made with a "french collar"- that's what they were calling it.
Here is the article I scanned. I am trying to remember if it is from the NYT Supplement or New Yorker Magazine.
