Another Cavanagh patent date

Another piece in the Cavanagh puzzle: this one comes from a 1930s fedora. Thus far, no one here has mentioned this patent date: October 23, 1934. The number itself is: 1,977,983. What do you make of it?

We have a few pics here somewhere of other hat companies hats carrying the patent as well.

Just need to look up the patent.

Cav edges can be done, th eproblem is having a run of one style of hat with a fixed brim width. It would have to be a big run, and unless It is a major hat company like Hatco doing it it may not bee done anytime soon.

It is a process done at the felter

Not cost effective for custom hatters.

This isn't a Cavanagh patent per se, it's for someone named Otto Blaine Carter, and is for the sweatband. It's designed to protect the hat from hair tonics and other oils.
