American Labor, Then vs. Now

That's an intersting article, I especially like the two photos of the unemployment lines, very telling.

As far as Labor, and the comparison of now and then, I have this blurb about quality.

I was stopped the other day walking near the park downtown and asked why I was wearing a sport coat and tie (both dated mid 40s.) I replied that I liked doing so. The person was very supportive of my attire (which most are not) and asked where I bought the coat. I told him it was vintage from the 1940's. He didn't beleive until I showed him the union tag.

And there it is, I think, the difference between now and then. A coat can survive for 70 years and show no sign of it. I don't think any modern designed clothing (save something bespoke) could hold up as well.
