Tho I'm not ready to post pix of my new place (Gak! Wall to wall boxes!!!) I thought I'd show off my latest addition. I was thinking about one of those nice Lane Cedar Waterfall chests, but I came across this on Ebay. It's maybe from the late 40's, and has Deco elements, Moderne elements, and traditional elements. It's described as a blanket chest. It has 2 drawers, and is 26" high, so it fits nicely at the foot of the bed. It even has a granite top, so it will be protected from scratches from my little kitty kat pals. Plus, the price was right (tho the shipping was a killer). I'll post pix of it in situ when it arrives.

Gorgeous!

What a nice find!
I want a chest of some sort badly, but am out of room to put it in...
That has almost a Federal or Duncan Phyfe look to it.

That's what I like about it, it combines a Deco feel with the Duncan Fyfe kind of thing. I've been trying to get a real Deco feel, but I'm winding up with sort of a blend of eras. The place I was in for 10 years was an Edwardian "McMansion", limestone rowhouse in Brooklyn. Built in 1906, full of great detail. I accumulated a lot of nice stuff there, but now I have to change the whole aesthetic of my environment (more or less). It's a challenge, but fun.
One very interesting thing I'm finding by lurking on Ebay a lot (as well as RubyLane, etc.) is that there are spectacular French Deco items available for a friggin fortune ($2,000 to $3,000 and up), but very similar English Deco furniture for a small fraction of the price (like $200 to $600). The French stuff is definitely nicer, with those gorgeous finishes, and highly sytled Deco motifs. But the English stuff is very nice indeed, and conveys that same Deco-ey feeling just as strongly.
Plus, there's a heck of a lot more to Art Deco furniture than just Waterfall.
Actually, it's turning out that my good old 1940 Zenith console radio is defining my whole decor. Not a bad thing.
