Alli Anyone?

I was just wondering if anyone has taken Alli? I read on webmd that there were some pretty bad side effects. I wantedto hear from anyone that hasactually taken it.

I myself have not taken it, but I have a number of friends who have. The only bad side effect which the company does warn you about is, if you eat a high fat meal and take the Alli, it can cause (Pardon me, if you are delicately inclined, skip this part) oily diarhea, which you don't have a lot of control over and have to RUN to the washroom. That said, you have the choice of taking the pill before a meal or not, so if you know that you are going to eat something bad, then just don't take the Alli before hand. My friends who have tried it said that it works very well and that if you are careful and follow the instructions, that they never really had any side effects at all. I myself have been wanting to try it as well, but I already have IBS which is a whole other ball of wax so I am not to sure about that. Good luck

A friend of mines mother had a rather unfortunate accident at the mall while taking Alli,
she was wearing white linen pants & did a little squeak, except that is not what came out..... needless to say she had to leave in a hurry while hiding her behind with a newspaper.

It also reduces the amount of fat soluble vitamins that you absorb. So, you have to take supplements or face unusual vitamin deficiencies.

I did take Orlistat for a while about 5 years ago. I didn't have any accidents, but I was extremely careful to eat fruit or salad with every meal that I used it with. The main problem was smelly flatulence. I did lose about 30 lbs though.

I haven't really kept it off though. :(

Ah come on! Eating healthy is good and for sure you should eat healthy anyway, but eating healthy alone won't make you lose weight! Moderation is the key! Then you can eat what you want as long as you don't eat too much!

I consider eating "healthy" to mean eating the correct foods and in the correct amounts.
I was in no way implying you could stuff your face of healthy foods and loose weight. Healthy eating also doesn't mean you need to deprive yourself. That's why "diets" don't work.
Exercise is also a must. Like I said before, sparkpeople.com has all the good info. and has been rated at the internet's #1 health website.

I've wondered about Alli, as well, but the side effects scared me too.

I agree about moderation. I've been at every end of the spectrum. I found that weight programs are the most helpful. Those held me accountable and I need the hand slap. ;)

I've tried diet pills (they irritate my heart mumur, it will skips beats). I've actually wondered if they caused the mumur.
Appetite supression has always been my problem. I don't eat when I'm stressed. It's worse than that, I just love food! I've allowed myself fast food once a week.
I have learned that fiber is your best friend (colon cancer runs in my fam), especially in breakfast foods. I won't eat some lame cereal that claims to have all these vitamins, when there isn't any fiber. Vitamins, in cereals, are processed and no better than pill form.

Fats and carbs are really the enemy, to an extent. Everyone needs those two, but moderation is the absolute key. Protein is one of your best friends, but again, moderation! A ladies diet should consist of mostly proteins (chicken, turkey, fish, pork), a handful of carbs like rice, and lots of fruits and veggies.

I wanted to try Alli, but like most people, the aide effects scared me away. Now I'm just trying the 'I eat when I'm hungry and I don't when I'm not' diet.

I was wanting to try Alli for a while myself, but like most others, the side effects were too off-putting. Plus, with my job, I'd have noooo way to make a quick escape. The minute I begin cleaning someone else's BM, I'd no sooner bend over and have my own problem to worry about lol :eek: . Anyways, I'm a firm believer in moderation and physical activity. The activity doesn't even have to be strenuous - walking or dancing are great! Fiber also plays a key part in my diet.

Thanks for all the responses. I am trying to also eat in moderation and better. I just have crazy cravings for sugar. I swear it's like and addiction. If I could break the sugar thing I would be good to go. I just need a magic pill that takes the sugar cravings away. So if anyone has one of those please let me know lol

I love sugar too. Here's my suggestion: get the darkest chocolate bar that tastes good and have a couple squares a day. Low in calories and full of antioxidants, and yummy!

Eating walnuts or almonds also gives a nice crunch and really helps make you feel full.

Finally, I've started doing a modified Mediterranean diet, and it's great and yummy! Check it out via Google.

I have noticed that if I start my day with something sugary than I will most likely have a rough day, craving it more all day long. The days that I start with a protein breakfast like eggs, I seem to have more resolve. Just something to think about.

I've just started taking it. If you read the pamphlets that come with it it has all the info you need. If you follow the directions and only take the amount of fat per meal that you need to lose weight your side effects are limited, and thats only when you first start taking it. I haven't noticed any as of yet, and I started with just 2 meals a day, to see how my body adjusts to it.
