Very cool, I'll have to check it out... but you know, Armstrong's life isn't exactly news. There have already been several other worthwhile biographies. I've read ones by James Lincoln Collier and Gary Giddins, and both were very good.

If you're ever in NYC, and if you are serious about Jazz, it is a pilgrimage you must make in your life time. I highly reccomend a visit to the Louis Armstrong House Museum.

I purchased what was the strangest bit of memorabilia that was probably ever for sale at a museum gift shop - a box of Swiss Kriss. Satch was a believer, even doing an endorsement ad for them.

I have always found it interesting how many of his fellow African-American entertainers misread Armstrong. He must have shocked the crap out of them when he called Eisenhower out over the Little Rock Ark. school thing.

You what Armstrong's caption was for this? "Leave it all behind you!" He promised his dying mother always to use laxatives for good health and used it daily (like smoking the wacky tobaccy).

I have the new bio on my Xmas list and hopes someone picks it up for me.
