Thanks for the help. I've been wearing old Stetsons and Akubras for 30+ years and never sure I had the name right.

And yes, I'm a Shadow Addict. Radio episodes, pulp stories, “Secret rings”.

The weed of crime bears bitter fruit.

Lots of hat questions looming

Then you know the cinema legend that provided the Shadow's resonant voice...

Are you serious?

I've been saying A-KUH-BRUH for years and never even questioned it.

I'm a dork.

Dean, do tell

never claim to be an expert, just sucked in.

Really, please tell more.

And I really don't want to be insulting Aussies not knowing how to "speak English" while wearing their hats.

Who knows what evil lurks

Orson Welles. 1937-1938, but of course not the only voice, Frank Readick, Jr. did it before Orson.

Thanks Dean,
The Welles Shadow radio shows end up being my favorites. I have several hundred.

The Maxwell Grant pulp stories are great reads. The Shadow is not Lamont Cranston....Cranston is just one of the personalities he assumes.

A Koo Bra...who woulda thunk it

Not to be pickie or anything but if you are going to say Akubra, then you need to almost drop the 'a' and have the 'koo' sound more through the nose and the 'bra' is rather short, almost like a little breath. Its our English so we need to preserve it.....;) :)
