New acquisition. I sure like the colors- and the pin is likely coming off, as I am no golfer.

My CD is a 59, like pretty much all my hats. I believe that's about 7 3/8.

There is no better site. They will look after you.

I concur.

I just received my new brown Fed IV. Jenny is a real pleasure to deal with, excellent coms and good advice regarding shipping.

Say hello to her from Marc next time you go there please.

Here are my current favorite Akubras, all modified in one way or another, from left to right:
Akubra silverbelly Campdraft (Size 58, 2 3/8 brim, 4 5/8 to front of pinch)
Akubra dark brown Federation IV (Size 59, 2 1/4 brim, 4 5/8 to front of pinch)
Akubra glen grey Campdraft (size 58, 2 1/2 brim, 4 5/8 to front of pinch)

HatCollectionAkubra.jpg

I measure out at 22 3/4, so the Akubra 58 at 22 7/8 has always been great, almost perfect, fit (at least in winter). Then Jenny at hatsdirect recommended I try a 59 on the new fed I was picking up as an everyday summer hat. I never liked the feel of all the other slightly large hats I had to stuff, but the Akubra sweatband is so pliable I’m actually starting to like the feel of the 59 even more here in the heat. I’ll probably get all my future Akubras in a 59. Now I just wish they made a nice open crown in white.

Very nice. Almost makes a fella want to get out a sharp instrument and start trimmin' a bit around the edges.

I have several Campdrafts I have bought from Hatsdirect and love them. Hatsdirect's customer service can't be better either.

I also recently purchased an Akubra Bushman from David Morgan. It was my first purchase from him and can't be more pleased with the hat or David Morgan's service. I ordered it on a Saturday and it was at my house on Monday! I couldn't believe how fast it was shipped. I wanted a felt hat for the summer because I'm not really a straw guy. I figured if they wear these in the heat in Australia it will work in Texas too. I liked the hat so much I bought another one to put a different crease in it. I now have a Bushman in a Cattleman's crease and one in a C Crown. I highly recommend both David Morgan and Hatsdirect. I just wish they made the Bushman in a lighter color.

Getting them all together sure made me do it again!

Campdraft purists beware, but I was working on my 2 1/2” trimmed brim Campdraft here tonight, and after looking at some pics decided the brim was too wide for such a dark hat. Far too flamboyant (and I’m far too flamboyant as it is), plus the brim was impacting the old field of vision when I wore it comfortably, so I trimmed slightly over 1/4” off all around, making it almost midway between 2 1/8” and 2 1/4.” Still large enough to protect the glasses from the rain, but not be a bother. I’m pleased with the result and already find it much more enjoyable to wear. Bad pics though. (And I still haven’t removed all the pencil marks).

This one and my brown Fed are really going to compete for most use.

Landman - I’ve never quite figured out how those brim trimming tools are supposed to work. I should do a search, using the scissors is a stressful experience!

They are actually very easy to use but the edge of your hat brim needs to be smooth and symmetrical because that is what guides the cutter. There are other ones that are guided by the base of the crown but those seem to be more expensive. These work great if you just want to trim a little off of a brand new hat. When I first bought one I practiced on an old hat before I attempted to work on a good hat.

Landman, thanks for the link. I have been looking for one of those for several months.

Kirk H.

It took me awhile to find one too. I first bought the 1/8" cutter then when I saw how easy it was to use I bought the 1/2" too. It works great for me because 4" brims are too big on me and I prefer a 3" or 3 1/2" brim.

I have never used it on it bound brim hat but if you have a hat with a bound brim you will need to carefully remove the binding and then once the brim has been trimmed you can sew the binding back on.

I just picked this Akubra for a song on Ebay. Can any of you tell me what model of Akubra it is? I've seen some with the pug added later...is this one of those, or did they ever come from the factory this way?http://www.ebay.com/itm/29071175589...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648#ht_2396wt_1386

That looks like it could be a Riverina but it doesn't say anything on the front of the sweatband. I have an older Riverina that has the name on the sweatband. Yours looks a lot older than mine though. Looks like a great hat.

Thanks Landman, when it arrives there may be more info on the sweatband, as you say.

Where's my Hat... ? in Upstate NY!
I like the Stetson Whippet/ or vintage Dobbs style hat, and can't get my hands on a reasonably priced one, thus I am researching and contemplating getting my first Akubra, a Stylemaster from Everything Australian (best pricing I can find, as conversion rates have come down a bit).
My question is what color is mid grey, is it the same as the carbon grey from hatsdirect?
Also is the the moonstone grey worth the 3 month wait, or is it worth to pay more and get it from HD?
And at that price is a custom from Falcon a better option?

Side note:
I wear suits for work 4-5 days in the week, some day would love a navy blue fedora to add to my collection.
Thanks in advance for the help fellas.
