Akubra Overload

My Akubra-itis returned with a vengeance this week, it had been lying low for a while, but it is nearly impossible to shake off this sickness completely.

In fact this was a very bad relapse - I placed an order with EA for no fewer than THREE new Akubras. A Cattleman in Fawn is winging its way to me as I write; the good doctor says that the arrival of this will contain an antidote that will hold the Akubra-itis at bay for approximately three months pending delivery of a Banjo Paterson in Charcoal Grey and a Jackaroo in Santone. He is unable to promise that the disease will hold off for any length in the future however.

LOL, same thing happened to me. It's been a couple of years since I ordered a new hat and I just sent Sam an order for two of them. I've got two more on my wish list that keep calling my name, too. One of them is the Jackaroo.

I have three Stylemaster Acorn fawn is my favourite, I have a pale grey I think its Moon something, and a dark grey which I have never worn, put it on occasionally, and say "No Not Today"

Hmm, why is that, you think? Is it because it's too dressy looking, maybe? The dark grey color in my opinion is dressier or more formal than the others, although less so than black...

Anyway, while I was thinking of getting a Stylemaster before, I'm thinking about trying out a narrower brim at some point, before considering another wide-brimmed fedora.

I just bought a dark gray beaver fedora from a master hatter. Was just trying on different color and formality-level clothes with it. My conclusion is that so far, the best combination of the hat is with a light gray sport coat and light gray suit. Next, with a white shirt alone. Anyway, the greater the contrast, the better my dark gray hat looks. It will also match with any blue color, and things that go with blue; but at least in my mirror, the light gray coats really made it stand out. It's the light/dark thing at work.

Americans buy Akubras. Do Australians buy Stetsons?

While I don't doubt that there have been some Australians buying Stetson hats at some point, I'm not sure if there are that many. Chances are, Australians that know about Akubra will probably think that their hats are of better quality compared to Stetson felt, but I'm not sure if too many know the difference.

One thing is clear; their Akubra hats are cheaper than importing American Stetsons.

Well bugger me, once I learns to tie me shoes gov I might take up some of that fancy book learnin' and learn to read.....

We dont wear Stetsons because we arent a big enough market for suppliers to consider it worthwhile to import them, and the akubra product has met all of our needs for the last century or so.

I for one wouldnt be paying a fortune to import one when an akubra does the job just nicely thanks.

Australians that know about akubra? Thats like referring to an american that might have a passing knowledge of the existence of coca cola.

I gotta' get me a Cattleman for work. But for the life of me, I can't decide on a color! Despite my screenname, the color black has no place in landscaping. Maybe dark brown? I don't want to get a ton of Indiana Jones comments...

EA has sand, fawn and blue grass green in stock. Sand would be good in the hot sun, but will show the dirt easily. Fawn is also light in shade and good in the heat. Blue grass green is a beautiful colour. Noggin tops has the brown, light grey and fawn. You sure have your options available to you!

EA offers a free chin strap on any hat if you go with them and want one installed.

Let us know what you pick.

If you want faster service, many of the Aussie retailers have waiting periods up to 3 mo's depending on size and color of style they have in stock, try David Morgan up in Seattle, he's the US importer for Akubra and usually has almost all his hats IN-STOCK. He usually gets a hat to you in 3/4 days and has one price for shipping for ANY style of Akubra he carries. Here's a link for ya :
