Akubra Fed or Bushman?

I have been considering an Akubra Federation or an Akubra Bushman. I know that most swear that the Fed. is the best you can get for the price but does anyone have both of these hats and can you tell me if one stands out as a better topper and why? Are there any significant differences between them? Being a novice hat guy and seeing both of these hats only in photos without real heads under them, I can't really tell what sets one apart from the other.

Bushman vs Federation

The Federation is an open crown hat with a raw brim that is a result of collaboration with several Indy guys here in the USA. It's available in 2 qualities, both rabbit felt as are all Akubra hats. You style it like you want or some hatters will do it for you if you are timid about messing up your hat, which you won't.

The Bushman is a bound edge Porkpie(I think) type hat which can be restyled to an Indy type hat but you will need to alter the brim. It is not dimensional cut as is the Federation. It is also available in 3 colors.

Almost all Indy fans get the Federation because it is ready to be bashed and styled and is close to the right brown color.

Hello,

I think the Bushman is an excellent style hat and since you are on the fedora lounge it is safe to say that you are not obsesed with the adventurer... not neccesarily anyway. Personally go the extra mile and talk Fedora (the man not the hat) into making you a non Indy style fedora. Or contact Lee Keppler at 619 647 6744. If you are going to get the Federation. Get the Deluxe because... quite simply ... it is a far superior succesor.

And, like the previous poster mentioned... it's open crowned so you can easily convert it to any fedora you like. (take a shot of whiskey before you cut the brim)

Kindest Regards,

Daniel Riser

P.S. The fedora I am wearing in my avatar (as of Aug 28th, 2005) is a butter soft Borsalino. I paid $30 for it with the box. Go on ebay you may find something far superior to anything available today. Vintage hats last if you take of them.
