Akubra Bogart

Hello all. I'm planning to order an Akubra this week and I was thinking I'd like the Bogart. Not bad to look at in my opinion and it's one of the cheaper ones on HatsDirect.
As this would be my "starter" Fedora I more or less want to go with the cheapest option that still gives me an okay quality hat.
Do any of you own one of these? Is there anything I should know in advance?

I have a different Akubra, but just wanted to add that you shouldn't be dismayed if the felt feels as stiff as plywood at first. I've had mine less than a month, and it's feeling softer already. Just wear it and it'll "break in" nicely.

Calling Koop Kooper!

I've got two Stylemasters and a CEO, and they've been great lids. One I've had for 11 years now, and still looks brand new!

My good friend and fellow Lounge member Koop Kooper has a sky grey Bogart; it's a mighty fine hat, but I've never seen another one that colour, only the black ones. I'd really like to get a sky grey one myself! If Koop's lurking on the Lounge today, maybe he will give us his review.

Akubra Bogie

I have a 7 1/4 Black Akubra Bogie on auction. It has not come up yet but it will in the next couple of days. I am selling it because I don't look good in black.

I also have a Down Under, also in black and 7 1/4, that will go this week.

I think that Akubra makes a very good hat. The fact that they are stiff at first doesn't bother me, after all you're not buying beaver felt!

Okay thanks. I've wondered how I'd look in black myself... I feel like I might do better in grey. But I figure black is sort of a staple and I'll get a grey one in a fortnight or so. I do like black better.

Chicago

Before you buy, check out Miller Hats 'Chicago.' I got one of these a while back and really like it. It's a bigger hat than the Akubra 'Bogart.' Actually it's fuller than most fedoras currently offered today. More along the lines of Peter Brothers in-house fedora style.
