Air Perm? Pin Curl Perm?

My hair really does hold curl better with a perm, but I also don't always feel like setting my hair. I have heard hat air perms give a natural, non damaging looking curl. Has anyone ever seen, or had, one done?

Also, is it possible to actually just do a perm on a pin curl set instead of on the rods? If so, has anyone seen, or had, one of those done?
