Great jackets.

On the topic of "rules," I admittedly match leathers (belt, shoes, watch strap and jacket). On the other hand, I wear shirts untucked :eeek:.

Hey! Long time, no see! Hope you are well.

Rules...erm...I just gave up wearing black leather, and now everything is some shade of brown. Makes life a lot easier.

Belt, shoes and watch strap I match in colours, especially when wearing a suit, this I consider a stylistic must-be. However I don't match my jackets colour with these three. A black jacket gives a nice contrast to brown belt and shoes, while a brown jacket will look messy if shade of brown of belt and jacket aren't exactly identical, because different shades of brown don't go along well, imho.

Matcher here. Black with black. Brown with brown. Luckily, I have a wardrobe with plenty of each. Shirt tail tucked rather than hanging below a jacket...just as I never wear a tie with a T shirt...:D

I'm trying to remember if such things ever occurred to me when I was a leather-clad ball of confusion several years ago.

Yo APP Adrian, I've got a reddish tan cordovan color HH Vanson Enfield. Is it true that I can get away with either brown or black shoes with this color? I actually like wearing either my vintage brown Fryes or black Tony Lamas with it.

Be useful to be able to see it - is it Horween hide, i.e. the same colour as Aero list as Cordovan - a strong burgundy? I have an Awero Bootlegger in cordovan Horween CXL FQHH. I've worn both brown and black with it. I prefer wearing burgundy shoes / belt with it myself, but either brown orf black can work with it too, providing, imo, the belt and other bits are matched to the shoes rather than the jacket.

Never knew that black leather can turn brown overtime. I inherited my grandfathers black cap toe dress shoes, these bad boys are made in the 50s and they still look pretty good too me.

It depends on the tanning process. Black jackets that 'wear through' to brown have been tanned in a manner which leads to that result - not all black leather will do the same. Moslt black leather jackets will go a sort of grey colour at points of wear rather than brown, these days.

I start getting into quicksand when I wear dark seal: dark brown or black. Or both. Aargh!

Ha, yeah.... I'd go withdark brown, myself....

Though worth remembering that the RAF wore black flying boots with their Irvins, which didn't look too bad.

Last but not least i choose a 1930 slim fit Half Belt size 40 in seal Vicenza. I put it in tumbler for 60 minutes. Setting the tumbler to cold and gentle helps breaking in the at arriving stiff jacket. The leather was a lot softer and more relaxed without any harm or shrinking.

What I have learned: FQHH is a lot heavier than the Vicenza but the odour of the FQHH is nicer in my opinion.

FQHH can be used in heavy rain and get better after it. You can hot tumble FQHH for a short time and get some shrinking. Don’t try this with Vicenza.

I am not sure if I keep them all. I am already thinking about an A2, Dustbowl, Maxwell or black Highwayman maybe in size 36….

A tumbler set to gentle treatment and cold temperature can do fine to both leathers but beware it can seriously harm your jacket. So I did not recommend it. Different styles and different sizes can result in good fit. So don’t always size down 2 sizes. ;)
A lot of useful information here, thanks.
