Aero Highwayman Pull-Up Brown Leather Size 46

So here's a Catch & Release, tried it out but it is just too large for me. Bought off FL, for sale here again. Aero Highwayman in tag size of 46, with cotton twill lining in a plaid pattern. In Oil Pull Brown Cow-Hide, as per tag. Nice middle to heavy weight hide, not yet broken in. Has a few scrapes and scratches as photos show. This jacket has storm cuffs in the sleeves. No interior pockets. Tag indicates this is a "Trainee made" jacket.

Please note that the color is difficult to capture, photos seem to show reddish tint to the leather, there really isn't red in this hide.

So you ask, what is Oil Pull Leather? Well here's some info for you:
Pull Up leather is a type of aniline leather that is coloured with aniline dyes that are sealed using natural oils and/or waxes instead of paints, pigments and top coats. They end up having a coloured wax or oil finish on the top. Pull-Up leather is therefore also called as waxed leather or oiled leather. They are mainly used for making shoes and bags but they have also been used for making furniture.

Pull-Up leather has a sanded surface underneath the finish. However, on some Pull Up leather, the natural grain remains undamaged. The grain structure can be fine or coarse with either a gloss or a matt finish. The main characteristic of these leather types is they develop patina very quickly. Arrrrgh Ah hate you. I've too many jackets but this one's so tempting my fave black jacket is a Highwayman in Steer. Grrrr... ahm a thinkin'.

Cracking jacket. That will date to around early 2013, I think. If memory serves, the 'Apprentice Made' label was introduced in late 2012. When Ken came back to Aero earlier that year to sort things out, he hired a whole bunch of new machinists fresh rom Herriot Watt nearby, and trained them up. The jackets they made in training that were good enough to carry the Aero label were sold on the website at about half the price of the regular production run. Initially, they came with the 'blue label'; mine is in steer, carries the same steer skull sub-label as this one, but the blue label (plane and clouds) instead. After the first few, Ken introduced the 'Robin Hood' label seen on this one which specifies that they are 'Apprentice Made'. The lining is a light cotton check type that, from memory, was first introduced on the Aero Sunburst in the Spring of 2013 when Ken released about a dozen new models. I'd shied away from the boxier HWM in the past, but at that price couldn't resist taking a punt, and it has in the last few years been one of my most-worn jackets. I'd jump on another one in brown given the chance, though alas I need a 42, this is too big. A very nice example, these seem to hold their value very well indeed on the rare occasion they come up for sale on eBay. Good luck with the sale!

What's the weight? My LHB in heavy horse is 3 to 3.5 ounce and weighs in at 9lbs. I'm looking for something a little lighter.

Ok, so my interest in this jacket keeps getting more "interesting." The grey spot you observed was light, probably a reflection off the lights above the stairway that I took the first set of photos at. So I took more photos of this jacket with a more neutral (white) background and brighter LED down lighting, with no flash set to fire on the point-and-shoot I was using. Here's the results, which in my opinion show the color better than the first set of photos.

I tried to catch several angles so you could see that the grey spot isn't really there. Also that the color and texture depth of this oil-pull steerhide is real. I like it, just wish it fit me better...

Also Willybob, this jacket weighs right around 6 lbs, so a good bit lighter than your heavy LHB. I find this a fairly "typical" Aero jacket weight unless extra heavy hide is requested.
