Aero Half Belt - Dry Leather or not??

Also, your jacket is made with Aero's "Vinatage" horsehide. It is going to age faster. Just treat the dry spots with some leather conditioner, like Pecards, from time to time.

I have an Aero Halfbelt. Mine is undergoing the same look as yours. The wear along the zipper edge, is exactly how mine looks. If you look on the Aero site, they feature a leather product called Leatherique, which is what I use on my Aero HB. It is not as thick as Pecards, and the leather softens a bit, and won't seem as dry.

@Henrythe8th: No deal!!! I LOVE my jacket now! I love it more and more each time I wear it. It was 100 degrees out today, but I still brought it with me to the theater as it is freezing in there.

The leather has changed dramatically and there is no flakiness as in the pics above. I have had it for 13 months now and used Pecards on it only one time. I will try to get new pics up soon to show the evolution. It really is amazing how the horsehide evolves!

ButteMT61 - yes we are in the same club I also like to wear my jackets when it gets warmer - the leather feels so soft and its best way to break it in.

SwimCap - love to hear that you like your Vintage Brown HH so much - have the same vintage brown and love it too. Like to see some current pics of your beauty!

Seeking permission to join your "Man it's HOT out here, and you're wearing a leather jacket?" club.

Last week, stopped into Starbucks proudly wearing my Aero HG-5 vintage FQHH and drinking hot coffee. It was 107 degrees outside. Guy comes up to me and asks "What are you cold?" I answered........"Not anymore, thanks to my leather jacket!"

He didn't see the humor!

The AERO HG-5 is a great jacket - like the A-2 style snap down collar and A-2 windflap.

I am not into: JUST wearing a T-Shirt for going downtown. . . never talked about :eeek:- but I feel (a bit) more like a "sharp dressed man" with a white T-Shirt or Shirt and one of my leather jackets. Want to see the look of the people who got the chance to see many of us today . . . maybe some of them will have a second thougth about what they wearing nowadays!?

Consider yourself an official member! YOU are a man after my own heart. 107º and leather AND hot coffee? Rockin' it like I do. Sometimes I do go for the iced coffee, but leather still feels good

Want to see the look of the people who got the chance to see many of us today . . . maybe some of them will have a second thougth about what they wearing nowadays!?

I don't feel dressy in a white T-shirt alone. But with an A2 or G1, oddly, I do. Not in a formal sense, but in a way that I could go just about anywhere and feel confident. Not sure I'm putting that down in a way that makes any sense...

So I'm very late to this thread but after reading the whole thing, I feel compelled to post.

I'm considering an Aero 1930s half-belt and I think I'll just have to do it. I don't have one of this style yet and it's growing on me very rapidly. Besides, working with Aero Leathers is such a great experience. Holly and Ken make it fun to get what I want.

I was also impressed by the fact that I am not the only one that wears a leather jacket out in hot weather! I thought I was weird but now I'm finding out that not so much. It would be very interesting for us all to meet one day.

I'm shocked that a couple people suggested Pecard's dressing for fine leather?! That is a terrible idea. Leather is a natural material, very much like our skin. Do you put Vaseline on your skin to keep it moist? Of course not, so why would you use similar petroleum distillates on your leather jacket? Natural fibers need natural oils. It's that simple.

My Aero horsehide jackets look like the OP's after I've worn them a while. The wear patches witnessed are characteristic of "chrome" tanning. Aero is one of the few that still uses this old process - most of the other companies use "vegetable" tanning. They have different characteristics. Vegetable tanned will have darker wear patches rather than lighter ones, and are harder to mask if you don't like them. Personally I feel they give the leather personality so I don't try to mask anything beyond the semi-annual bee oil treatment.

Hmmm, this may not go over well with many of the posters here. Nor will the leather jacket preservationists at the Smithsonian be in agreement, as they use Pecard. But I am going to stay out of the fray.

Personally, I'd look at the prototype 1920s half-belt that's appeared on Aero's sale page in the past couple of days. Really nice slim silhouette and interesting detail - really nice back - very different from the other versions of it.

Wow, controversial!! I'm a Pecard fan myself. I know specialists in the preservation of leather bound books who use it. Natural products are by no means without harm, by the way. Tobacco, cyanide, opium, dog poo - not necessarily harmless substances. Mind you dog poo was used to treat leather back in the day... A light coat of Pecards on your jacket once every 5 or ten years ain't gonna do anything but help. There aren't really too many natural products around that haven't been altered, treated, doctored, converted, distilled, changed and otherwise modified for their use so the word natural always amuses me. The sun is natural too, I'd rather put Vaseline on my skin than stand in the sun - especially over here when it's often 95 degrees.

By the way - do get that 1930's halfbelt you'll love. I love mine.

Yup, but seeing how you can customise the cuffs, AND ask for any jacket to be made slimmer, that rather negates those differences

But seeing as just about every jacket that gets posted on here seems to have some kind of variation from "standard" - and the same can be said of many of the jackets hanging on the rails at Galasheils, I would question the term "most"...
