Aero Cycle King

Saw this on the sale page. I'm not sure how I feel about it. This design is clearly borrowed from the HD Cycle Queen, the female counterpart to the Cycle Champ. I know there were some Sears and Taylor's/Appalachian jackets that used a similar pattern for men's jackets.
While I applaud Aero's efforts to freshen up the catalog I can think of no less than a dozen styles I'd rather see them reproduce.

I’d love a Cycle Champ repro

Think the Aero version misses some details but then again so many iterations of the Cycle Champ throughout the years.

A bunch. And Aero’s version is too far off the mark for me. Like HH said, it strikes me as an IR with two patch pockets. Don’t get me wrong, I do dig it, but...

I’ve been looking for a white label one for a long time. Not as expensive as the earliest HDs, and still pre-AMF. Awesome leather. All I find are cycle queens with this tag.

Edit: Vanson makes a nice one. Carlos has one.

Not sure about the IR referance, as there appear to be many differances to what I have on my back as I type this. However the back of the jacket is similar.

Not a huge fan of this particular style (Cycle King) with the "patch" style pockets overall. Perhaps it may grow on me at some point.

Aero tweaked their IR and did not repro a cycle champ. That’s the impression I got, admittedly without sitting down and comparing the jackets in detail. Just a feel when looking at them.

We don’t know if they are reproducing the cycle champ or just taking inspiration but the fact is that it is so close than any deviation from the original appears more like a mistake than an intended feature.

That Aero Ranger on @AeroFan_07 looks pretty sweet.

While it’s likely too close to the IR to be worth Aero’s effort, what I’d like to see is the sport clad/penny’s rider actually done right and wearable. I had this one but for obvious reasons a fit disaster. The mouton collar was attached with what if I recall correctly were wooden buttons.

If they wanted to do a cycle champ and not a queen they should’ve done this one:

or the later version:

I have always associated the twin patch pockets with a jacket made for females.

I’d be interested in Terry’s input but my understanding is that the Cycle Champ took different shapes across the years.

My attempt:

First version 40s

Late 40s (snap on the lapels and no snaps on the belt loops)

Early 50s - patch pockets go away (similar to buco j-82)

Later versions like the one Ton’s posted.

The cycle queen on the other hand has patch pockets so similar to early versions of the Cycle champ but looks different if you look closely. No d-pocket and slash pocket/main zipper on the opposite side. Looks also proportionally shorter.

I think my vote goes to the early 40s version but I don’t think anybody is making it.
