Comparing to the Aero Cafe Racer, it's quite different, despite seeming very similar.

The (black , CXL FQHH) leather is already well broken in, and very soft. Love the leather. The lining is great, too. I'm not crazy about the wind flap on the main zipper -- it gets in the way when starting the zipper. I bet I would appreciate it in the wind on a bike though.

It's quite tight fitting through the shoulders, but that seems to be as intended, I think. Overall the fit is quite nice. I'll have to get some pics up of me wearing it soon.

Cordo or brown? Leather looks really nice. Rich color!

Great looking jacket. Completely agree about the wind flap - it's the one thing I'd have removed if I ever get around to having the zip repaired.

Awesome looking jacket! I am also about of ordering a BR. Guppy, since you know both jackets CR and BR, could you give an advice regarding sizing? My chest measures 42 inch relaxed and 44.6 expanded. I once tried a 44 CR and it was good in the shoulders but too tight in the arms around the biceps (I don’t have a huge biceps). Thanks!!

I'd recommend talking to Holly at Aero or Carrie at Thurston, rather than trust some random guy on TFL who happens to have first-hand experience with an instance of each style.

Since you asked, I'll tell you what I can:

I have two Aero Cafe Racers, both 4-pocket ("Sonoma") models, one in Brown CXLFQHH, one in Black CXLFQHH. Both size 42. Both fit snugly, very good fit, I would say, but the Black one is pretty tight in the sleeves. I bought the Black from Ton312 a couple years ago, got a very good price on it, it was like new when I got it. The Brown one fits maybe slightly better due to the sleeves being roomier. I have no idea why they're different -- if it's just normal, natural variance, if one was a mistake (and if so, which one?), or if the one made for Ton was more customized for his measurements (I think we're close, but he's definitely heavier than I am, and has a more athletic/muscular build than I do.)

The Board Racer is a size 44, and having tried it on, I seriously doubt that I could zip up a 42 BR. It feels somewhat tight up by the shoulders and biceps, where my Black CR is more tight around the forearms and wrists. I would guess that if/when I get the leather on the CR jackets broken in to the extent that this BR already is, the tightness in the sleeves will be a distant memory. By contrast, the sleeves on the BR actually bell outward somewhat, when unzipped, and are fairly loose. But they tighten right up to where they should be when zipped. The zippered cuffs on this BR are on the outside of the sleeve, while the cuff zips on the CRs are on the inside.

Bottom line: Take all relevant measurements, or rather have someone take them for you, and provide them when you order. And I'd recommend getting an actual tailor to measure you, someone who really knows what they're doing. Take additional measurements beyond the usual chest, waist, and height, if you are concerned, and listen to your fit expert, whether it's Holly or Carrie.

I happen to be about dead-average for the size and build that Aero designs their jackets to, so it's easy for me to take a gamble on an off-the-shelf or used jacket, and most of the time they work out for me. Just lucky, I guess.

Thanks Guppy! That supports my theory;) I don’t want to go with a size 48. seems a little to much off when having a 44.5 chest (expanded). I reached out to Carrie. Let’s see what she advises and hope for the best!
I don’t want to wait any longer :D autumn is coming

FWIW, my chest measures 43" expanded, and I'm about 20 lbs lighter than I was this time a year ago, due to exercise and improvements in diet. I've dropped a pants size, but my shirt/jacket size is unchanged, thankfully. Well, maybe some of my tighter fitting jackets now fit better. I don't think the BR is a style that anyone can wear comfortably. Good luck with your fit quest.

Great buy, looks awesome! Instantly the right kind of wear that you want in a leather jacket.

The board racer pattern always seems a bit out of proportion to me. Size 44 with 23" pit to pit and 17.75" shoulders? Would be a decent shoulder size for a 38/40.

Great looking jackets if they work out for you though.

It's black.
LOL. I'm seeing things. Maybe time to clean the phone. Looks great man. Would like to see some fit pics. I wanted to go with a BR when I had my CR built but I couldn't quite figure out how to size it. That's why I took all the design elements and asked them to be put in the CR pattern. That CR is the easiest jacket I have to wear and it feels like a feather compared to HB.

Great synopsis, a fit pic of of the BR and CR side by side would be much appreciated. A picture is worth 1000 words or in this case a $1000 out of the old leather slush fund

Lol. This black has enough of the new knocked out of it that it has some depth and undertones to it. Easy to mistake the color. It's got a little glow to it, a little shine from all the burnishing it's apparently been through. Whoever owned it before me did an amazing job breaking it in without adding wear to the lining.

^^ Fitwise, Aero jackets have always seemed very tight in the sleeves to me, from biceps all the way down to the wrists.
