Aero A2 Steerhide

Hi chaps,

Just received my Aero Steerhide today. It took four weeks almost to the day to arrive just as promised.

First impression is that it is shorter in length by about 1 ¼” than my Eastman Werber and Lost Words A2. This is no bad thing unless you are taller than me! (40inch chest, 5’9”)

The fit over all is very similar to the Werber although the sleeves are slightly longer. Interestingly the shoulders are very slightly narrower than the Werber but not quite as narrow as the Lost Worlds.

Aero use original patterns even for this dare I say budget Steerhide and it shows, it looks right in my opinion.

Now to the leather, it is very thick, but not particularly heavy. It does have a very slightly rubbery feel to it, and this is not meant as a put down, but reminds me of the sort of leather you find on a sofa! It is soft to the touch and indeed is comfortable straight out of the box. There are visible scars on the skin which I like and it is nice and grainy. The grain is not uniform but varies slightly from panel to panel which again I like.

The stitching is quite spaced which I believe is in order for a heavier weight leather.

Overall for a well cut and very well made A2 at around £200.00 it’s a great jacket. Although it not horsehide it still has, as far as I am aware, authentic details being based on an original pattern.

I’m very pleased; hope this helps any one thinking of this jacket.

Cheerio.
p.s my girlfriend likes the colour!

I don't know a lot about A2's but that looks great!

Will they make it to your measurements? Or is that a off the rack size? I like how it fits anyway.

And the nice graining in the dips of the wrinkles!

Very nice.

I have just checked the Aero website and can no longer see the steerhide A2!

I called them to check and they said they no longer make this jacket and I may have had the last one!!

Shame, the fit is so good I would like a H/H one now, oh dear this is getting expensive!

When I called them to make my order on the steerhide and give them the my size they asked me my height, which shows they want to get things right.

Sorry for the bad news for anyone wanting one. Maybe they could be persuaded to do some more?

Of course that's likely why they stopped making them. The steer was no doubt taking sales away from the pricier jackets.

[huh]

Makers run out of hide due to popularity!

From time-to-time many makers will get their hands on a hide at a good price and pass on the savings (they still make a profit).

They have a limited run on that particular hide and are limited to so many jackets made. If it sells at a decent price for the average mans' pocket then it sells out quickly, because folk know a good deal when they see one.

It's a win-win situation for all. NICE JACKET there!! :eusa_clap

The jacket fit and colour look really good. It may not be horsehide but the fit (I think) is spot on for you.

Nice jacket, enjoy it.

My opinion also. I've seen quite a few originals, and even though this one is not horse hide, the pattern and fit look correct.

I remember when this jacket was on Aero's website. It was advertised as "limited edition special purchase", exactly what PADDY said. Aero got a good deal on some surplus steerhide originally intended for Levi Strauss. When its gone, its gone. They had some in russet also, which sold out even quicker.

The jacket is Veg tanned with 100% cotton lining, bargain eh?
I'm so pleased with the fit I am considering letting my LWorlds go to put towards a H/H Aero! Shame as the leather in the L/W is simply awesome.

On second thoughts I think I'll keep the L/W and I have just ordered an Aero in 'sample leather' H/H.

Somebody stop me!

Nice looking Aero. I've always had a weakness for that chocholate-pigment steerhide - they get it sporadically. As to canibalization between price points? They make as much on either jacket (actually have been privy to their cost structure)... There are just completely separately segmented markets for the hides - both supply and demand. Also remember the intricacies of their specific patterns vs. the vanilla of USA and FS. There are actually amortized development costs in some of those specific pattern jackets.

Sorry if I am boring anybody, but some of the comments seemed a bit uninformed?
