I think it was extremely cleaver especially for people that wanted a cooler hat but didn't want to pull out the liner. I would be really interested to see pictures of that Playboy.

Here's one from a distance. But I think you can still see that it's mesh.

2 very nice ones there Josh.
Love the old 30's one.

However that Mr Main Street is great, think it's the first one I've seen other than the ad.

Thanks, Billy! The 30's one, is most definitely very interesting. I kind of wish that the previous owner didn't use such a tight pinch for so many years, but oh well. It gives the hat some character. The Mr. Main Street is most definitely very cool, just a bit big for my head and not old enough to commit to the pre-1940 collection. One thing that I did notice about this 30's Adam and my 30's Adam homburg is the ribbon and binding material. I am unsure what kind of grosgrain ribbon they used, but it seems that on both of these hats, the ribbon didnt hold up as well as on other vintage manufactures hats. Maybe the ribbon that Adam used had a higher cotton content.

Here's my latest one off the 'bay, an Adam Pacemaker. Similar to the Pacesetter, but with slightly shorter brim. Colour is hard to describe, it's in the middle of brown, green and grey.

BEAUTIFUL Pacemaker, Billy!! Its interesting that ADAM would name the hat the Pacemaker. Stetson had a Pacemaker for many years as well. :eusa_clap:eusa_clap

Something I had noticed too. Almost is if the scratch easily. From what I've found, Adam didn't make their own hats 'til the 50's and up until then they seem to have been made by Hat Co (Knox stable) companies and Frank H. Lee company. I imagine they would be the same as on those they made for stores to label as their own too (Pennys, Sears etc).

Thought I'd try and post a comparison of the Adam hats I have in the green/brown colour colour sphere...

Holy hannah, Billy! You really do have a trove of Adam hats. I recognize a couple of different models. Nice diamond bash'd hats sir!

I appreciate seeing the colors in your pic. The color offerings were many by this company. I will have to source some old advertising to see what the color offerings were in the individual models. I recall almost 20 colors offering as per one advertisement. Eric -

I am cleaning hats today. Stiff brushing, soft brushing and steaming are the hat tasks of the morning. Recent posts of Josh's GRAND new hats reminded me of the Adams hats that are awaiting my attention. I would like to share this pic;

I wanted to mimic the pic that Billyspew offered earlier in this thread. The stacked hat pic really helped me see the subtle shaded difference of the hats. (Oops, I do have a couple of Lee hats in the stack, so apologies for those labeled hats.)

The shades of brown are the most difficult for me to capture in a pic. The browns are really different. Rich brown, brown, and buckskin are really all different when viewing in person.

Thanks for letting me share. Clean hats and ready for cooler felt hat weather, Eric -

Wow Eric,
I didn't realize you had amassed such an awesome collection of fedoras, or ADAM fedoras, or that particular color- in varying shades-of ADAM FEDORAS!
Those pleated ribbons are saweeet and I love how the brim edges all match the ribbon.
Great hats Eric;
hope to see ya at the Midwest Lounge Meetup
