A2 Jacket Velcro

Thanks for allowing me on your forum. I notice there are a number of you conversant with the USAF A2. I flew for Uncle Sam during the Viet Nam days and got out before the new ones were issued, so I went and bought myself one when they came out. It's an Avirex and a great jacket. Now, I have the velcro like what was issued and want to put it on the jacket to make it look as issued. Does anybody know if there was a specific regulation on exactly where the command and name patches went? If someone has a jacket as issued, can you tell me how far right or left from the zipper and how far down from the epaulets?

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks, yes I saw that and I think I will just use that pic and eyeball it. Went through a bunch of threads and that was the advice most often given. Apparently no one knows the exact measurements and, in fact, there may not be any. I even talked to Avirex and couldn't find anybody who knew. I did find Air Force Regs that specify when the jacket can be worn and even such things as the jacket should be zipped when worn, only the name tag and major command patch are allowed and that patches are not allowed to be sewn directly to the jacket, velcro must be used. The regs do show a picture much like the one you reference. Appreciate your response.

I'm fairly sure that there is no standing reg for the Velcro. In the naval services, the para shop guys would usually sew it on by eye.

I do wonder however if the USAF jacket doesn't already come with Velcro from the maker unlike the G-1. The issued A-2s seem to be more uniform and as the Maj Com patches are standard size, as opposed to the occasional variety of naval patches, you could issue a jacket with at least basic Velcro applied.

If so, then you might ask a current issue A-2 owner or maker to measure his. Just make sure that the measurement doesn't change with size.

Worst case, having been a military flyer you probably already know about where your wings would sit...put em there!

And welcome!
