A Simple Thank You from Iraq

Ladies and Gents,
Sorry that i was unable to post this yesterday being memorial day, but hey, its a day late but i guess its the thought that counts, right?
Anyways, a little bit about me: I am Army Specialist (E-4) serving as a rifleman (11B10) in the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division "Red-Bull Division" (Minnesota National Guard) in Iraq. Ive been deployed now for the last 8 months as a replacement from NY for this unit. Back at home i am an avid World War 2 Re-enactor/Living historian. I was born in the wrong era...
I would like to say thanks to all those veterans out there and in this forum, living and those who have passed, that made it possible for all of us to pursue "freedom" in our own respective ways. To everyone out there who wears a uniform, and to those who support them, I want to say a simple Thank you. For every guy on the two-way firing line, there are hundreds behind him backing him up and working for the moment so that he properly does his job.
Thanks fellas and lassies,
SPC Mike Kilian

"I let my M-1 do my talking..."

Thanks to you, SPCMickyKilian, and I'm glad you spoke, or typed, as well as your M-1. Yourself and your comardes are in my prayers for victory and safety. BTW by M-1, do I assume an Abrams? Probably, but being a re-enactor I'm sure you own one of these:

Thank you for your service to our nation.
Sending you prayers for your safety and success.
And welcome to our little corner of the web!

I'd like to offer an additional thank you to all of you out there that are currently serving or have served in the past. :)

Well, no, sorry, i meant my M1 Rifle, but yeah, in a way, the M1A Tank will also do. I've seen them in action and if i had another job in the army, it would be to drive those beasts around. Atleast then i wouldn't have to worry about my damn IBA (flak jacket and all attachments) that damn thing would be my body armor. Hell, those tankers got LZ boy recliners to cush back in while they cruise around for hadji...I guess if i wanted it to be totally up to date with my quote i would have said, "I let my M4 do my talking" lol. But seriously, No, trust me, the real thanks should go to the other guys who fought in other wars, Vietnam, Korea, WWII and particularly in OIF 1. They are the ones that had to go through hell. Do without, live without, deal with TRUE sacrifice. What we have here is a political breakdown. As such, i was going to feature my quote as "Maybe some day they'll let us fire back..." There's a lot to go on that, but I'll leave it as it is and keep this in WW2 Mode and stay "I let my M1 do my talking." Let me also say that aside from the M4 (m16) there is no finer battle implement devised by man. What a beauty. As i always said "If my M1 had a XXXXXX (female organ) I'd marry it..." Sorry michelle (my wife) lol. But in either case, i am proud to serve, proud to follow in my family's footsteps, and proud to be an infantryman and old at the game (21) Thanks everyone.
Always,
Micky
p.s. im a short timer as of now, we're outta here in about 50 days...this unit was already extended (thank the baghdad surge).
Always

On Hiatus. Really. Or Not.
Thanks to you, Mike!

Welcome to the Fedora Lounge... Although you are a WWII reenactor, this thread really belongs in the Observation Bar where more people will view it. Thanks again for your service to our nation. Be safe.

but, were you really? if you were around in the late 30's, would you have been a Civil War re-enactor? (something to ponder)

*salutes* thanks for serving this country of ours. especially in such a hostile environment -- and i'm not talking about the 115 degree heat!
