But with respect my friend, as many here who love their classic leather brogues will testify to (and this being an 'international' forum made up of members from all over the globe), it might be worth just extending the makes to those of English heritage too Matt (such as Churches; Trickers; Loakes; Grenson; Lobbs; Cheaneys; New and Lingwood; Edward Greens ...etc, see Jermyn St shoe shops in case I've missed one).
Then it might be more of an informative list.
BTW gents...WHY do you go for one maker over another, what is that unique thing that gives 'them' the edge for 'you?'
From the poll list I only have Aldens, three in cordovan leather. I used to have more from Alden and AE, before I got into the English and Italian makers.
I'm such a creature of habit. I have some nicer shoes in my closet but I grew up wearing Florsheim and Stacy Adams to Catholic school so I tend to wear those.
Hmmn, none of the above.... I do have my eye on a pair or two of the Alden Indy boots, but alas that will have to wait until the pound rallies against the dollar (which also gives me plenty of time to save, I suppose!). I don't have any of the English makes Paddy suggests either.... actually, the one brand I most consistently opt for are Clarks. I know many here sneer at those, but I've always been pleased with mine. Treated reasonably, I can get ten years or so from a pair of Clarks that bought at regular seasonal sale prices can be had for around USD60 at current rates. (That's about a tihrd of the price of the very cheapest pair of Churches I have seen in the January sales this year). Money no object, I'd adore to have several pairs of Churches, but alas I live in the all too real world of academic salaries!
