A problem with the visor on a French Kepi

The lady-wife and I have been invited to a "Casablanca" party and I'm intending to go as Capt. Renault (you know, the amoral French officer played by Claude Rains). So I've now got the "fun" of putting together my uniform.
A trip to the local surplus store has turned up a nice kepi with oodles of gold braid on it in my size. Only problem is that the visor of a French kepi is meant to be flat and at right angles to the body of the hat but, due I guess to poor storage, this one is bent up slightly. I've tried putting the visor under a couple of heavy law books (I've plenty of them !), with another book on the body of the hat to balance it, but as soon as I take them off, up springs the visor again !
Any suggestions for getting it permanently flat, anyone ?
The kepi is quite modern and the visor is covered in vinyl, so perhaps steaming or somehow heating it before applying those law books might do the trick ???
HELP PLEASE !!!

I would be careful with the steam. The vinyl may buckle or it may delaminate from the visor's core leaving it wavy. Perhaps dampening the inside of the crown at front, low to the visor then try putting the weight on it.

Actually as a part-time Free-French Reenactor the Kepi Brim is up like that because that's how it is generally taken off, flipping the brim like a basball cap. If you look at some pictures of FFL troops the brims are almost always bent upwards.
Not that this helps your problem, but, you know, I know too much and my wife gets sick of me pointing stupid stuff like this out. Especially when a movie is on.
