gents i could not help but post something about our family friend here. He passed away two days ago. he did not see action in WWII but was in the service and was in panama at the time flying P-39's and P 40's.
in Korea he shot down 8 mig 15's ( piloted by the Caucasian looking, Russian speaking "Chinese" pilots.) During Vietnam he was my grandfathers friend and commander, on a first name basis with him long after the war and a family friend.
He spent 7 years in the Hanoi Hilton in North Vietnam enduring all kinds of torture and abuse but he always had a smile on his face and never let that get him down.
we hung our flag at half staff yesterday and toasted to him with 18 year Glenlivet.
so long to our friend, fellow gentleman and hero.
for those interested heres a clip of the history channel show Dog Fight interviewing him and recreating one of his duels.
