A Dobbs 55?

Okay, I just took a $25.00 chance and bought a Dobbs beaver 55. on ebays buy it now. I have a Dobbs 20 and it is a beaut so I had to go for as I have never seen one before. Has anyone else?

It just looks like another Open Road Style fedora with the original box.

A compulsive buy, but for 25.00 it's not too big of a gamble.

Wow! Another good buy. I am going to have to follow you around at the Expo. These things just have a way of coming to you.
When you get it, let us know your assessment of the felt quality. $55 in those days was quite a bit of money for a hat.

I'll have to see what kind of shape it's in before I get too excited. But I've never seen a Dobbs 55, so my curiosity and compulsive obessive disorder took control of the mouse and before you know it I had bought another hat.

By the way I'll be at the expo on Saturday. My wife and I are going to visit Arts shop and look at the rest of Frisco the rest of the week and leave Thursday morning.

Looks nice in the picture. Definitely let us know what you think when you get it. As you pointed out, you're sort of buying a pig in a poke when you buy a hat on ebay, but for $25 plus shipping, it's fairly cheap fun.

I've got a stetson of unknown vintage and condition on the way that I paid $25 total for (should arrive today). The picture was small and blurry but, hey, it's the right size and appeared to have potential.

I can't do it all the time, but occasionally it's fun to take a flier. It's worth the money just for the anticipation, and, who knows, we might wind up with decent hats.

Even though prices of old hats have risen over the last few years, we are fortunate that vintage examples of our obsession can still be purchased at relatively cheap prices. Heck, even if you guess right only 1/3 of the time, you'll still wind up with a nice vintage hat at less than what a new one (of probably lesser quality) would cost.

My strong suspicion is you stole a beautiful hat. Some of my very best vintage are Dobbs, and the "55" is the high end.

It is a light color. When you get it, check for cleanliness. I recommend you send it to get cleaned. If it has moth damage..then you may be disappointed.
