Your best bet is to buy either an ELC RW 27752 or, if you don't mind to waiting a year + one from GW, and get a Hilts name strip applied to it. Another option would be to buy one from Bill Kelso. The wait time there a few weeks.

I went for one like this years ago... 2004/5? An ELC 'Escape' jacket. This was their 27752 in a darker HH made specifically for the Japanese market... (back then, not sure if this is still an option).
It was OK, but, for me, just didn't look right :eusa_doh: Personally I have found ELC to be a bit hit and miss, really good quality jackets, but all the ELCs I have had, have had a funny fit. Then again, I have only tried their RW 27752 and 1401s in various sizes attempting to land one I liked. Perhaps the pattern didn't suit me. I think things may have changed a bit since then ;-) Their Warhorse jackets look amazing. Pics of their Werbers and Monarchs that look great! (funny, mine never looked like the pics...?) Anyway, I digress.
So, I went through a phase of wanting a Great Escape jacket.
IMO best option would be a Goodwear, certainly wait a while.
Bill Kelso, but compare the immanent Victory Horse.
Real McCoy NZ. Pricey, but pics of RWs being worn look spot on.
ELC. Could be a winner.

As I recall, Macqueen's jacket was almost black in some lights?

Didn't one of the Japanese manufacturers (Buzz?) do a complete Hilts replica at one point?

The jacket Appeared Almost Two shades too dark in some lighting aspect of the film, because of the Saturation effect of the colour old Film. Of course it could depend on the Jacket too, some WW2 Goatskin G-1 type Jackets I have appear to have the Hue of Dark chocolate, could appear almost black in some Light.

Im sure an Old print reel would vary in colour depending how It was developed and Aged over a long period of time..

maybe that, AND you might have to adjust the Tint On your TV.

But That is only Just a presumptive guess.

All that aside, I still want one!

oh stevie!!!

do you guys remember the movie Papillon:D

Personally I would buy any decent A2 and sew a Hilts badge on it(All the big company's sell them I believe). No one is going to come up to you and say "You know that part of your jacket is not authentic" So take it from a non collector, go the easy cheap route:p
Ah yes Papillon! one place I would like to visit for my Urban Exploration is the French Penal colonies to have a look around the old prisons. A great book but I did read someplace Henri Charrieré exaggerated some of his own adventures.
And I would really love to have a go in one of those legendary Porsche 917s from Le Mans.

Oh, yes... I've had experiences poring over details of screen costumes that you would not believe. Then the film in question came out on DVD and turned it all on its head.....
