A-2 Name Tag Question

I just took delivery of a second hand BK Werber in Russet Liberty hide. It is the nicest hide I've encountered and I have Aero and GW Shinki. I'll post pics soon, but have one question. The jacket had a name tag that was removed, leaving stitch marks. Honestly, it doesn't look too bad at all (and may "close up" with a little rubbing), but I'm anal retentive enough to want to fix this "flaw". I'd like to get a replacement name tag and wonder if I should put my first two initials and last name on the tag or leave the tag blank? I am ex-military, but way ex (been out 30 years). I wonder if having it personalized will look a bit much?

It did happen and pics will be coming.:D

I'd leave it as is. If that's not OK, a name tag with initials, no last name, a bit like nice luggage or shirt, because that's what it is. A blank one would look weird to me.

Well if you look at it that way, were you in the Army Air Force? That's way back 70 years ago. For cripes sake put your name on a nametag. After all, it is 'your' replica WW2 jacket. ;)

+1
Initials and surname.
Aero recently updated their nametag leather. Much more accurate period repro.

May I suggest you lighten up just a little bit? We all know how sensitive New Yorkers are..........

I'm especially hard on New Yorkers. Mainly because my good ole Army buddies from there talked funny. I even had to translate NY talk into Louisiana speak for waitresses and bartenders on occasion when stationed at Ft. Polk. :D

For the record, I'm originally from Virginia (born and raised), but have lived in NY for 20 years now.

I did just order a name tag from Gibson and Barnes (2 initials and last name)

I think an old leather name strip would look fine and, since insignia and rank were not on it, I don't think you are impersonating anyone...but yourself.

But it comes down to how comfortable you are with it. If you feel self conscious, you can always get a name strip and beat the hell out of it so that its (practically) unreadable. Then it looks natural and not like you are wearing a patch that says "YOUR NAME, FIGHTER PILOT!!!" On it.

If it makes you feel any better, my flight school roommate tore off my first set of "soft wings" the day I got winged and broke them in by chewing them. When he slapped it back on my chest it looked like I was wearing a piece of beef jerky.

...but that was the beginning of a long night....
