A 1940's bedside table

I want to make my bedside table a homage to the 1940's. So far I have my 40's Western Electric telephone and I've just bought a 40's baby ben wind-up alarm clock. I'd like to eventually find a doile runner to put underneath them but I'm having difficulty finding the right size for some reason. [huh] Does anyone have any other idea's as to what I can "display"? What were some typical things that ladies had on their bedside table back then?

My nana had a pink pot with a lid for putting her dentures in at night, and granddad had a green one on his side! Not recommended, but i thought i would share, as both had dentures fitted beforre the war as was not uncommon. And they had the same prewar bedroom suite when i was growing up, so i got used to seeing those. How about a posy vase, with some pretty flowers, a lamp, a vintage photo frame with picture of family/loved ones etc, or a nice cut glass container, like you get in dressing table vanity sets for your hand cream or night cream or whatever you might use. Those little glass jugs for water with the glass that sits on the top are nice too and my nana had one of those as well at her bedside. I always miss the plotline of old movies because i'm constantly ogling the finer details of the set decor. I have just bought a lovely vintage embroidered book cover to put my bedtime paperback in which is cute and have an embroidered glasses case for my specs too . Hope this helps x

I agree with Miss Sofia, check out the old movies for decorating ideas. I thought I was the only one that missed important parts in a movie because I'm too busy checking out the decor or what they're wearing! lol

Oh no, your not alone, i had to get a friend to record a programme the other night because i knew i would be too busy ogling the outfits and the decor, especially as the programme had got rave reviews so i knew all the decor would be ace!
