Guess people here don't like leather with a big pull up effect.

Personally, I like the look of the leather. It's the jacket design that's making me hesitate. It just looks kind of....blah.

Sometimes I feel as though my comments should be stricken from the record...it wasn't all that long ago I was "buzzing" around my neighborhood in a yellow and black 60's Bates CR. I'm not sure I trust my own eye:confused:
But then again...that was a f@&king cool jacket.

The jacket isn't weathered or distressed, is it? I think the marbling is simply the pattern of the leather. There was a Windward on the Aero "Used" page some time ago in that color that I really liked the more I looked at it, but it was just a solid tan without the variations. It looked great broken-in. I'm just wondering if that blotchy look is due to the lack of a final step in the tanning process that would provide a more even color. Anyone know?

I was also wondering if the lines I quoted above from the Gustin page aren't Gustinese for "Yeah, we skipped the final stages and saved a bundle." This would be in accord with the oddly unfinished look of the design, the lack of a half-belt, gussets, bi-swing, etc.

I found the perfect items for this outfit.

Honestly, if I'm going to pony up $700 for a leather jacket, I'd rather just go the extra $50 and get a custom steerhide jacket from Diamond Dave. Or a custom hand made jacket from Johnson leathers. These will last a lifetime...and just get better with age. Comparatively, Gustin jackets look to me like a flavor of the month fashion statement.

For me the black is the only colour that looks halfway decent, I guess once the others are more worn in they may look a bit more 'even' and make the marbling a little less of a feature. For me though, this price is far too close to other brands/options for me to consider.

In fairness we REALLY are not the target audience here.

This is the key. I'm sure these are beautifully manufactured, but they're to a very modern design from a company which specialises in that. I looked at their denim a while back, and it's all too low waisted and tight-legged for me. Somewhere like the Style Forum, though, where modern fashion is their thing and the stuff we like is dismissed as "fancy dress", I'm sure they'll love it. For me, I very much agree with the comment above that it's under-designed; reminds me somehow of a little leather jacket made for Action-Man / GI Joe and blown up to a human size. Just something not quite right with the shape.

They sold fairly well at first, but I'm not sure any of them have funded yet.
Again, I like the guys at Gustin, but there's no passion or anything about the gear that is unique - in fact, it's very very generic. I guess that appeals to some of the up and coming SF hipsters, but aside from the jeans, which I do really like, I'm not buying much else...
You can get a used ELC, GW, Aero, etc. for the same or less. That's what I look for.
