Finally found one! This was an eBay find that seemed to be poorly listed. It fits like a glove. The brim is 2" and it appears that the crown would be 6" if pushed out. The ribbon feels like what a tie feels like, basically. Sturdy fabric. I can't tell for sure, but it doesn't seem like this guy was ever worn or, if it was, it wasn't worn very often. The color of the straw is almost like a copper or a brass. The sweatband has a design of punched holes throughout the whole thing. You can see it in the images below. Very nice hat, I like it a lot! The sweatband says "Genuine Imported Braid" which isn't pictured below due to the ten-image limit in posts.
The only problem is that the leather sweatband, while in excellent shape, is stiff enough where I feel like if I bend it out too far (to inspect for ID tags, hidden treasures, the Unified Theory, etc.) it will simply snap. It's not brittle (i.e. - it doesn't chafe my forehead), but it's completely dried out. The only suggestions I've found were in this thread, where it's stated that there's no cure for completely dried out leather, only that there are things you can do to attempt to prevent it from happening.
I have two questions:
01) What time period would you date this hat?
02) What suggestions do you have for treatment of a dried out sweatband?
Thanks!
Pictures -- I'm sorry that a few are blurry:
