How would one go about buttoning a 6x3 DB suit jacket? I'm assuming the normal way would be to button the top two buttons only. What about buttoning just the middle button like a 3-button SB jacket?

Depends on the roll of the lapels...Of all the 6x3 db's I've seen, I'd probably button the top 2 or all 3...Never saw one thatd look good with just the middle buttoned

I'm not a fan of doing only the middle button on a sb (makes me look like I'm too fat to do the top one too, the way it sits...). With the style of db you describe, I think it would look even worse with only the middle button in.... Personally, what looks good to me with a db is for all the fastenable buttons to be in while stood, with the lowest one unfastened when seated. I know a lot of folks wear a DB with the lowest button unfastened at all times; it's only my own opinion and to be treated with the contempt it probably deserves, but I always felt that looked untidy, kinda like the button was missing, and serves no purpose while standing.

I agree. With any DB, I always fasten the top button, whether sitting or standing, and all buttons while standing. (A DB is by its nature a stand up, button up suit, and just looks better when fastened all the way -- ask Mr. Bogart.)

If you want to fasten just one button, and the middle button is your style, more power to you; it's not necessarily incorrect. However, bear in mind that the fabric will drape more the way it was intended to (and a DB is meant to drape a little) when the top button is fastened allowing the cloth to hang down uninterupted.
