I've had this hat since the 1980's and never seen another one. It is a civilian hat made by long time defense contractor L. Silberston & Sons Ltd London, which is somewhat odd. My best estimate is that it was made in the 1940's by the state of the leather, the sheepskin and the verdigris on the button snaps. The leather is extraordinarily soft and supple and the sheepskin is luxuriously soft to the touch. There is a repair made on one side by the ear flap. Feel free to ask questions. There are ties that can be used to tighten the hat under the chin or to tie the ear flaps up. The leather appendage hangs from a small leather strap, but I always keep it snapped on one of the buttons to prevent damage. The large appendage can be stuffed between the ear flaps and the back of the hat if the flaps are worn up. The appendage can also be worn to cover the face, the back of the neck, or the front of the neck. The various locations of the snaps make this all possible. See pictures and feel free to ask questions. Selling for $50 plus shipping.
