I'm really looking forward to seeing this -- Robinson is one of the few, true heroes of the twentieth century. And that's an incredible recreation of Ebbets Field except they got the billboards wrong: the ones you see are from the mid-fifties. In 1947 there was a "Electricity -- More For Your Money!" billboard on top of the scoreboard -- the Schaefer sign didn't show up until the following season. Oh, and I really hope there's no rap in it.

Somehow I think whoever wrote the lyrics "I'm Jackie Robinson... I rob, I sin..." (if I am hearing the lyrics correctly) never read a single damn thing about Jackie Robinson. He's often attributed to be one of the honorable people involved in sports...

Looks like a good inspiring movie. But why do they have to use that rap for the soundtrack?

I totally agree with you. I guess the trailer " rap soundtrack " was made to attract a wider range of audiences.
I will probably watch nevertheless .
But , it's like the buildings or skyscrapers from the past with it's beautiful designs compared to todays modern
jagged angles , all glass construction , design by the young generation of today .

Excellent portrayals of Leo Durocher (the baldheaded guy haranguing the team) and Ben Chapman (the racist Phillies manager) -- someone did their research well. I'm really looking forward to this.

I'm not sure who the mouthy Pirate pitcher is supposed to be, though -- Robinson had no significant problems with any particular member of that club during the season, unless it's supposed to be Kirby Higbe, a former Dodger who was traded to Pittsburgh in midseason. Higbe was a Southerner, and had a lot of racial baggage -- but he was also the man who reported the abortive petition drive against Robinson to a club executive because it didn't sit well with him. He was known for throwing the "high hard one," but I can't think of any instance where he used it against Robinson during 1947. Robinson's chief harassers were the Phillies, the Cardinals, and the Reds.

I think I'm the strangest vintage baseball fan there is....I'm British...have zero understanding of the rules of the game....have never watched a game from beginning to end....but I'm a real enthusiast of the vintage players......and I LOVE the old style vintage caps and jerseys.....they don't make them like they used to....awful nylon fabrics now... I'll definately see this film...

That's also the Polo Grounds in another scene. Amazing what you can do with CGI these days. They have a guy named Lucas Black, who I'm not familiar with, as Peewee Reese. Reese was a pivotal character in Robinson's story, so I hope he's good. Jackie Robinson had a very distinctive sort of brittle voice, that this guy totally doesn't have, but I guess that's minor.
My mom used to go to Dodgers games all the time at Ebbetts Field, and she always talked about how electrifying he was on the bases, He'd take huge leads, just to shake up the pitchers. He was a pretty big base stealer for his day, I think his highest total was 42. He'd get on third base and pretend he was breaking for home and then run back to the base. He did this over and over, drove the pitchers nuts.
Really looking forward to this.

Ditto on old style vintage caps & jerseys.
After WW2...nylon replaced wool & silk as the major fabric.
Today , modern jerseys...the stripes are printed...
Back then baseball uniforms had the stripes knitted into the fabric
( much like stripes are knitted into a sock) .

Please forgive my correcting an all too common spelling error. The word is spelled "crap", although the 'c' is silent when spoken.

For those who don't know, the song in the trailer is by Shawn Corey Knowles-Carter, better known to the world Jay-Z.
