That's right: Britain's big bugaboo in the 2nd WW. Let's hear it for those German engineers -- I mean, tailors!

From the mid 1930s:

Great trousers, HBK! And how about those incredibly wide (yet perfectly straight!) legs that German trousers have. What's up with that?

actually the bottom pair in that photo taper quite sharply (i wish they didn't). makes me think they're later 40s. although i haven't really seen enough German ones to compare to.

I'd say that you're right. They may even be early '50s. My Santiago rag store education taught me that German trousers became more tapered in the '50s, though the button fly continued to be utilized into the '70s. Jacket lapels became narrower, too.

They liked their jackets scalloped and yoked. In fact, they liked their yokes scalloped. Really! Makes the back of their coats look somewhat cowboy-like.

I have an overcoat waiting for me in my hometown with just these German features. Made for someone in the army posted to Germany in the late 40s. Scalloped and yoked back, 6 button front with 3 to fasten, with a full belt and all that good 30s-style German stuff.

God knows when i'll be able to afford to get up there to get hold it.

Those suspender tabs are pretty unique, and cool. I think I've seen a few pictures of repros made with them on that website The '30s Style. Germans have always had a good sense of aesthetics, hence the forward pleats (which I love and prefer over reversed, always).
