3-Piece Seersucker Question

Hello all. I have a J.A.B. seersucker recently bought for me as a gift. I'd like to get a waistcoat for it, but I'm not sure how to go about getting one made. Of course I don't have a cloth sample, but I can always point point to the site and say, "That's it!" Also, would it be acceptable to have a solid color waistcoat? Any thoughts would help

Buy a matching pair of JAB trousers and have a skilled tailor use the cloth in them to turn them into a waistcoat. Alternately you could wear a contrasting solid coloured waistcoat, though I'm not sure how well that would work with seersucker.

A solid colour waistcoat could be a good alternative. Show us a few good photos of the suit and we'll be able to tell you what might work. Or you could try and get the custom-made waistcoat to go with it.

I think that SS is perfectly acceptable for year round wear in your area but I would be hard pressed to wear a vest in your summers.

I agree. In sultry Florida a seersucker probably would work year round, except for those weird years when it snows but I'd leave the vest in the closet from may to October. The suit itself is beautifully neutral so you could get several odd vests made. If this is for business, I'd go for a tan and a buff and maybe a light blue. Then, for stepping out on the town, I'd get something wild. Paisley or Hawaiian shirt material would be seriously cool in a Cuban restaurant!

The whole idea of seersucker is staying comfortable in hot weather. A waistcoat rather defeats the purpose and thus it looks a little silly/overdressed to me. That is, unless you are going for the Mark Twain look.

If it is hot enough that you are wearing seersucker, why are you wearing a waistcoat? Alternatively, if it is cool enough for a waistcoat, why are you wearing seersucker?

Wolfman beat me to it. The combination seems counterproductive in Southern US heat. Personally, if I were going to go for the waistcoat, I would go odd. Probably solid white. Visualizing the look with a matching vest, it seems to me like it would be an overbearingly large amount of vertical stripe, unbreakable by even the loudest tie.

I say you should go with a white waistcoat, just as Allen suggested. I think it would look nice.
