DeSoto taxicabs were very popular in the thirties, forties and fifties. Depending how you look at it, they were the biggest car in their price class or the cheapest car in their size class. They were roomy, reliable, tough, and simple to keep in repair.

During WW2 when cabs were in big demand and new cars not obtainable, some DeSoto Skyview taxis in New York City racked up over 500,000 miles in 5 years.
